New residents to Missouri, drove to Hermann from Wentzville where we live now at the suggestion of some co-workers. Was interested in some German food, specifically Schnitzel because it's one of my favorites. Ended up at Vintage because its menu had Schnitzel and appeared appealing. The converted horse barn was gorgeous inside. Table was a slight squeeze for my larger size but it worked. Service was great, manager table touched a couple times during our visit. Shows they care. Wine list is comprehensive offering flights. I would have liked to be able to mix some wines by choice I stead of limited to four options of red, white, sweet traditional, and sweet flavors. The kids menu is basic with pizza, burger, chicken strips. Would have liked to be able to offer at least one German option for the kiddos. The menu had a good selection of German options from sausage to Schnitzel to roast. Unable to choose, I went with the German Trio; Schnitzel, sausage, and roast with sides of warm German potato salad and braised red cabbage. The meal was amazing. The sausage was cooked perfectly and was packed with flavor. The roast itself was a tad dry but the sauce on top helped with hints red wine. The German potato salad was a surprise. I'm typically not a fan, but this lacked the ever present bitter flavor. It was warm and the potatoes were firm but melted in each bite. The braised red cabbage was another surprise. Slightly sweet and warm cabbage flavor. To the reason I came....Schnitzel. The meat was very tender and well cooked. The breading met my expectations of a light fried taste. Seasoning didn't overpower the flavor of the meat and breading. Overall, excellent excellent food. So glad we made the trip. I stopped in the store to purchase a couple bottles of wine. Looking forward to it. Keep up the great work!

If you know what to order the experience is excellent. I came here with my family, for my birthday, on a trip from Columbia. Many of the reviews that I'd read were spot on. They cram as many tables into that small barn as they can often making it difficult for customers and waitstaff alike to navigate through the crowd. It is a clean, charming, well-lit (during the day) restaurant. All of the employees were very pleasant. Our waitress was no exception. She was very hospitable, and made several trips to our table to clear dishes and make sure everything was going well. I agree with others that the food is very hit or miss. We ordered several dishes, and were both pleased and disappointed. I would recommend the Reuben, Sauerbraten, Pretzel sticks, Potato Salad, Red cabbage, and this special they had with chicken flatbread. The chicken flatbread with it's crisp thinly cut veggies, and sweet chili sauce was absolutely delicious, but sadly not on their menu. The Schweineschnitzel, while good meat, and served cooked to perfection, didn't have much flavor to it. The beef barley soup, being both rich in beef and barley, suffered the same judgement. It took a lot of salt to add any flavor. Conversely, the Kartoffelpuffer tasted as if the cap had fallen off the salt shaker, and it had poured freely into the potato mix. Also, there was no bacon in them. I didn't bother bringing it to the waitresses attention, because there was so much food at the table to be enjoyed, and I was buzzing from the wines; Moscato and kick'n berry. Overall, the experience was very good. If I return, I will likely order the Reuben or the Sauerbraten with potato salad and red cabage.

Came here for the first time and loved it. I had the German Trio (pictured) and my wife had the Chicken Spatzel. We shared a bottle of Chardonel and a bread pudding for dessert. The food was top-notch, with some standouts including the house balsamic vinaigrette on the salads, the fork-tender beef saurebraten, the utterly delightful bread pudding and the bratwurst, but everything was outstanding. I will certainly come back again for that German Trio, as you cant get this authentic German food in Saint Louis where we live. I can't tell you how the rolls were as our server forgot to bring them, but except for that one little issue she was friendly, helpful and attentive enough without being overbearing. The wine isn't terribly expensive and tasted great but I was surprised to see that when you buy a bottle they plunk down two glasses and the bottle and it's on you to pour- not a problem for me at all, but in my years in upscale dining that's not how we presented wine and the informality of it surprised me a bit at a winery. As I said, not a problem for me but I was surprised. This was an outstanding getaway in a charming converted stable, a really different dining experience that was memorable and delicious. The missing points in my rating are from the missing rolls and the bathroom which was very clean except for a really rancid smell that was clearly coming from the old urinal screen. Other than that, it was fantastic and I'd come again any time I'm nearby, recommend it to friends. And I'll probably occasionally make the hour and fifteen minute drive to indulge in great food in a neat spot.

My husband's family has been dining at the restaurant a day or two after Christmas for around 20 years. My husband and I have never been fond of the place but it was where his mother wanted to go so we dealt with it. This year was absolutely the worst ever!! They did not have the wine that Mom has ordered for the last five or six years. The cheese and meat tray appetizer was not good and had less on it than it ever has. My husband and I ordered French Onion Soup and it was so full of croutons that there was NO soup! I asked for extra tomato on my salad and it had only a few grape tomatoes ( which I assume means that it would normally only have one or two. In fact my husband said that he had one cut in half.) There was also not enough salad dressing. The waitress did not ask us what we wanted to drink assuming that the wine was all we wanted when there were clearly two young people under 21 and I didn't ask for a glass as I don't drink wine. There were only three entrees and they were out of one of those but said they had beef stew! Who goes to a nice restaurant to order beef stew? Anyway, my husband and I ordered the beef medallions but specifically said we didn't want anything on them. A steak should hold it's own without sauce! They were without any flavor other than the grill marks. There was no choice of potato other than mashed and they still had the skins on them. The vegetable was squash, carrots, and broccoli. My husbands plate had NO carrots (the only one of those vegetables he likes). No one was happy with their meal. Not even my mother-in-law who has always loved the place! We have started looking for another restaurant for next year as we do not plan to come back to...

The wife and I were on the way home from a visit to the Churchill Museum in Fulton and we decided to make a side trip to Hermann for some German food. This was our first visit to the Stone Hill winery complex of which this restaurant is a part. What an incredibly beautiful setting! Although the restaurant was busy, we were immediately and warmly greeted by who I assume was one of the managers. She apologized that we'd have to wait 30 minutes, so we decided on a bottle of wine to enjoy while we passed the time. After I poured two glasses, my wife asked if we could take our beverages outside. She said of course and offered to put the bottle back in the wine cooler until we returned to be seated. She brought the partial bottle to our table after we were seated. This was just the beginning of what would be a wonderful dining experience. The house dressing is incredible. The dinner rolls were warm, fresh, and served with real butter. The potato pancakes were served with a ramiken of applesauce (very authentic). We split the trio plate. Very generous portions more than enough for both of us. Absolutely delicious! Our server was attentive and caring. When my wife mentioned she wanted to keep the blue wine bottle for a craft project, the manager said to meet her outside where our car was parked and she brought my wife an entire case of empty blue bottles! To top it all off. I had left my credit card at the table and she ran it out to my car before I got out of the parking lot! Needless to say, we will be back. If you want an authentic German meal in a relaxed and casual atmosphere with outstanding service and great local Missouri wines for a very reasonable price, this is your...
