Honestly? 5 star service, food, and restaurant! The staff most of the time are attentive, diligent, and caring. The food is always wonderful, and I have ordered take-out A LOT over the years. I have only encountered minor issues with the staff/food quality. However, I might be biased due to this being the only sushi bar in the city and it being my favorite restaurant here.
The only "complaint" I really have is the menu. While I enjoy what they have to offer, it's quite limited and generic like most sushi restaurants around DeSoto County. "Rice, soup, meat, fish." I think Yellowfin should expand their menu with more unique recipes. They should consider spreading out their soup noodles/flavors such as, but not limited to; soba, ramen, pho, and udon. A lot of people here sadly think the "instant ramen" you find at your local store is how ramen actually tastes. They never had the pleasure of truly experiencing what ramen tastes like when well-prepared and seasoned.
I also suggest adding takoyaki back onto the menu, as well as dangos and mochi. There are so many different recipes you can offer with takoyaki, and personally dangos and mochi would be a unique treat to offer our city, let alone county! I think adding these year-round delights would build up the menu and create more of a uniqueness to the restaurant and help it stand out more in a traditional way.
My additional review: This is a picture of their Sashimi Combo (which also includes either a house soup or salad) from their Sushi Lunch Assortment Menu as well as a Spicy Seafood Udon Noodle Soup (which is A LOT bigger than it appears, highly suggest eating it alone! You can also request it without the spice if you are sensitive/dislike spicyness, without veggies, or squid/calamari, etc.) Personally, I think they can do better with the broth in the soup. It definitely has room for improvement, as it's lacking in flavor. I give it a 4/10.
Lastly, their sashimi is always a favorite of mine, I love their choice in raw fish, it's so refreshing, and their house broth soup is always 10/10. It inspired me to make my...
Read moreOn the day I visited the restaurant it was staffed by a lot of young, inexperienced workers. I don’t think I saw anyone over the age of 18. I only mention that to say their ages could have played a part in my experience. We were seated promptly as it was empty when we entered the restaurant. I wouldn’t consider it a warm greeting. We asked to sit at the sushi bar. There were two young men making sushi, they never greeted us. At one time another gentlemen came from the back, he also never greeted us. The server Esmeraldo was the friendlier of all the staff but she was inattentive. We ordered two sushi rolls and slices of smoked salmon. It took a little while for the rolls to come out and they came out without the smoked salmon. The young man told us it would be a while but it was coming. We were done eating both our rolls and the salmon still wasn’t out. We eventually got it and that was the first time the young man behind the counter even acknowledged us! He apologized and referred to my bf as sir. Once we got it, we discovered why it took so long. I suppose he was the cleaning fish, because on our last bite of smoked salmon my bf bit into what he thought was plastic, but it was actually a scale. We were going to bring it to our servers attention but it took too long to find her. It took us forever to find Esmeraldo again to get the ticket, as a matter of fact we had to find another server to find her. She brought the ticket and we still had to wait yet again to pay. On the way out, another server almost bumped Into me (it really wasn’t even that close of a call) and she acted as if she had committed a crime, she apologized profusely. A simple excuse me would have sufficed. The sushi was good but not good enough to sit through that bad service again. Your employees could benefit from customer service training and maybe even diversity...
Read moreIt is terrible that in 2020 we STILL experience such racial unfairness when spending our hard earned money. We went into Yellowfin on Saturday 2/8/2020 to grab dinner. We were told by the hostess that we would sit at a grill that only had two people at it. As the hostess gathered menus and silverware, a white guy came in behind us and he knew the people sitting at that grill. He politely took a seat without consulting with the hostess and told the waitress he needed a high chair. One of the hostess told him, we were going to seat them there! The other guest at that table told the hostess and the waitress there is no available seating here because our husbands are coming. The lead hostess looked at us and told us we had to wait 20-25 on a table. One of hostess looked at her and told her that's not fair, they were here first, and those ladies said they were only a party of 4 leaving more than enough room for them. The lead hostess disregarded what she and proceeded to tell us we had to wait again. We decided that if someone who came behind us can grab a seat before us this may not be the best place for us. We have decided to share on this platform as well as other and with our friends our experience. If your employee can state that is unfair because they noticed the unfairness more and likely the situation is unfair. Presently, I have no stars but had to select at least one for the post to be submitted. We will not visit this...
