This was one of the worst Mexican food places I’ve ever been. I wish there was a way to give it half a star because it honestly gives 1 Star places a bad name. There were so many things that were bad. I’m honestly surprised I didn’t get food poisoning.
I got the “Super Burrito” with season chicken. The burrito was the size of my hand smothered in red sauce. The burrito was flat because they was no ingredients inside. At first I thought I ordered off the kids menu. The flavor was red sauce with red sauce on red sauce. The red sauce tasted like they opened a cold can and poured it on top. It came with rice and beans which tasted like red sauce. You wonder why? It also was covered in red sauce. Catch a theme here? I should have taken a picture. All for about $13 on a plate half the size of a regular dinner plate.
The place was dirty. It looked like it haven’t been properly cleaned since they did the decorations....the 90’s. Thick layer of dirt and grime on the walls. Dirt and dust on all the pictures. Kids drawings on the walls. Really gross (the dirt and grime not the kids drawings).
Poor if any service. While I may just be saying this just because I had such a bad experience here and so everything annoyed me. I got no drink refills. We only received part of our order (we didn’t get charged for what we didn’t get). For the price we paid we have gone to more affordable places and received amazing service. (Just as a side note we always tip well even with bad service.)
It smelled like a diaper that fell into the water. It’s a strange smell and I don’t know why my brain thought of it like that but I can’t liken it to anything else. It was a constant smell that was obnoxious. That was the first thing I stated when walking in.
I honestly don’t know how this place is still open. Herndon has some amazing places to eat and I’ve never been disappointed. This place left such a bad taste in our mouths I will never eat here again. I will never recommend them and would tell people not to waste your time and money. I will keep searching for a good Mexican food place and will avoid this place like the plague. This was one of the worst Mexican food places I’ve ever been. There were so many things that were bad. I’m honestly surprised I didn’t get food poisoning.
Overall my recommendation for this place:

Read moreGreat place and very quick service. Love the Breakfast Burritos and love to get takeout for dinner. They have excellent burritos for dinner as well. They have really good Sopapillas but unfortunately they had to take them off the online ordering website because people were complaining because you have to eat them fresh or else they get hard. If you want to get them, you have to go inside and order take-out in person. So sad that too many people complained so you can no longer order them online because they don't know that you have to eat them fresh. If you get the Sopapillas, be sure to eat them right away, first thing and ask for Honey if they didn't give any to you. They have cinnamon sugar on them but they are even better with some honey drizzled all over them. They also have good Churros and the Churros and Ice Cream is really really good! Overall a really good place. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They even have really good shakes that are good with a breakfast burrito in the morning. I really hope Anita's stays in business for a long long time because they have the best breakfast burritos in the world and no matter where I get breakfast burritos, they are never as good as the ones from Anita's. My favorite breakfast burrito is the Steak and Egg which is absolutely delicious but is pretty expensive for a breakfast burrito. When I get a Steak and Egg I always get 1 Steak and Egg and 1 Chorizo. The only breakfast burrito that I will not eat is the Bacon one. I have tried it many times in the past and the taste and aftertaste of the burrito I just cannot handle. Other than that every single breakfast burrito and menu item at Anita's is PERFECT! 10/10 will come again every time I want some good Mexican/Hispanic food. You seriously can't go wrong with anything on the menu! (except the Bacon Breakfast Burrito. That burrito is terrible. But you...
Read moreIt’s always fun to discover new restaurants when you travel. I usually let my apps guide me to new places, but I also rely on people who already live in the local area to guide me to the best options, and that is how I got to know Anita New Mexico- Style Mexican Restaurant in Herndon, Virginia.
I visited Anita’s for breakfast and I was more than satisfied with the many options on the menu. When you think of New Mexico style food, you immediately think of red and green chiles. And yes, many of the food items do, indeed, feature these additions. However, for breakfast, the focus is on breakfast burritos and American style breakfast entrees, so you don’t need to think about red or green chiles altering the flavor of a classic breakfast you know and love.
I selected the Three Egg Omelet when I visited, complete with hash browns and assorted meats. Chips and salsa were complementary and every person in my dining party ordered something different. We all enjoyed what we ordered and I liked that the portion size wasn’t gigantic. It was just enough to fill me up. I also appreciated the attentive service.
With parking, this Anita’s restaurant is located at the triangle- shaped intersection of main roads, so it could be an issue to get into the lot and find a space to park. But don’t let this obstacle get in your way. Anita’s New Mexico- Style Mexican Restaurant is a good choice for a satisfying meal, and it earns my...
