NEXT DAY UPDATE: my wife and I are sick to our stomachs. We basically both have diarrhea and continue to repeat that nasty fake frita meat. Disgusting.
To begin with the drinks menu here is a SCAM. My wife and I first ordered sangrias which show on the menu that they have triple sec, brandy and sprite. The sangria was flat, and aside from that, had an overwhelming taste of perfume. I asked if they use lemon and orange juice concentrate and they assured me that they use real “limes”. Again, the taste was so overpowering I felt I was being deceived. They also explained that their drinks do not have pure alcohol since they do not have a liquor license and that their brandy and triple sec won’t be as strong as we expect. However, they’re still charging FULL prices. For example a “Margarita” with a beer goes for $30. GTFOH.
After flagging down the waiter, we ordered bacalao croquettes which were ok but COLD, they best thing on the plate was the garlic aioli. As mentioned, service was not the best, every time we wanted to order something we had to hunt and flag down the waiter.
For our entree, We ordered two frita gangsters that supposedly came with bacon jam. To begin with, the meat was low quality, filled with crunchy bits of fat with a horrible artificial colors. The “bacon jam” was three inedible boiled pieces of bacon glued to the top of the burger. The burger was accompanied by frozen fries. I can make better fries at home or just visit the McDonalds closest to my home at a fraction of the price and for better tasting fries.
The only saving grace that this restaurant had was the manager on duty who apologized for everything and was receptive to the criticism. They comped our entire bill, left us there without telling us so, we sat there for another 20 mins before flagging down the waiter for the last time to ask for the bill. We asked that they charge us for something at least since we were not looking for a free meal and to also leave the poor overwhelmed waiter something of a tip. We sat there again for another embarrassing amount of time before we decided to get up and leave. Regardless of the managers efforts, this restaurant seems to be cutting corners and charging at higher end prices that they most certainly do not meet the standard to do so. I would definitely not recommend or return.
I certainly hope that for the sake of the owner and the people who work and make a living out of this establishment, that the decision making team seriously consider being more honest in their menu and adjusting their prices to reflect their realities. Waitresses can be trained and educated, and most patrons can be understanding and compassionate of overwhelming days. But, cutting corners and serving sub par food at astronomical prices is an insult to people’s...
Read moreLet me start by saying prior to Covid I had been here once or twice and would have given this place a 5 stars, now I no longer see it that way. When I first walked in the waitress said I could sit where I wanted and I asked to sit at the corner table which seats four. I came in on my own and typically I wouldn't ask to sit at a table of four but there were only two other tables occupied. Waitress (Grethel) denied my request and said I was the only person. I let it go because there's no point in arguing with someone that will eventually serve your food. I ordered the media noche croquetas and as always they were phenomenal. I highly recommend ordering. I noticed prior to ordering they changed their menu. I miss there pan con minuta and instead they have it replaced with a fish sandwich, which was made with Mahi Mahi and to be honest it wasn't that good. The sandwich was soggy and I didn't finish the whole thing. Originally I wanted to order the frita but they didn't have any so I settle for that Sandwich. I can tell the mahi mahi wasn't fresh from its smell and taste. Typically when you go to a restaurant the waitress will ask how everything is going before you finish your plate but I wasn't asked until I was done eating because the Grethel was too busy with the party of 6 which was pretty much done eating by the time I got my food. Once she picked up my food I asked for the check and noticed they have a credit card service charge and also charge you for the bottle of water. I read in a previous review they give you no choice but to have bottled water. Since covid I have been to other restaurants that give bottled water only but they won't charge because tap water is not option. This should be the case here but it's not. If covid is the reason they give you bottled water then it is a dumb reason because they still give you a cup to pour the water in, which makes no sense. Customers should be given the choice to have bottled or not. The only reason why I am being nice and giving this place two stars is because those croquetas are really good. Unfortunately, I most likely will not come back to this place and if I do it's for those croquetas to pick up. My overall service and experience today...
Read moreWhat a pleasant surprise in good 'ol Hialeah. Who says Hialeah cannot do modern? trendy? decent food? Cuban food And style with a twist? NOT ME! I KNOW Hialeah has hidden talents and THIS IS ONE OF THEM. For me this is between a 4/5 star ie 4.5 stars - due to my burger being quite soggy - see below. BUT
After reading the reviews this was on my radar. I called in my order, it was a little hit n miss as I am English with an English accent and speak no Spanish. But we got there. I arrived in ten minutes as stated and it was already waiting for me.
I got a take away order of the Ganster burger with the coleslaw on the side. After seeing the set up and that no-one was sat outside I decided to eat there, as to me it was risk free with the pandemic. They have a very ice outside area with a string of lights hung up and a few nice modern tables and chairs. each table had hand sanitizer on as well as cute lil touches, (see my pics) Plenty of parking too on the shared car park on this mini shopping complex.
Inside the decor was gorgeous, clean, modern and right up my alley. I also loved the writers wall - aka it is free for patrons to scroll, draw and express themselves, on the two walls in a mini corridor leading to the gents and ladies restrooms.
My burger was very nice. However it got soggier and soggier as I was eating it - maybe because it was sat waiting for me in a plastic container and sweating? The Brioche bread was soggy as you know what. Still, the taste was there. Does this burger or pattie as they describe it on the menu have choritzo in it, I THINK IT DOES! LMK if my taste buds are on point. The coleslaw was good, but not wow facto for me. Next time I will be extra naughty and tree the fries instead.
Also to be noted being English WE know as a culture and ME myself (I can make a mean bread n butter pudding) we have high expectation. Next time I plan to try this pudding. I suspect it will be good. Therefore DO expect to see me here again, but hopefully next time minus my darth vada hideous mask, and being able to sit inside and be maskless, happy, free, vacinnated and...
