I first learned of this place from the Gazette in their Thursday Hoopla section. The description alone tempted me into a try; freshly baked bread, savory meat, and fresh, crisp vegetables. Plus, I’ve never had a Banh Mi before. Until today.
The restaurant was fairly small but very clean and well lit. A mural describes what their specialty is like. Some soft music played in the background which made the place more appealing.
The cashier was very friendly, helping explain some of the various drinks available and the specifications on sugar levels.
I ordered the Banh Mi Dac Biet (ham, head cheese, pork roll, and pork belly) - and Hokkaido Milk Tea. I had intended to get the tea at half sugar but it came with the full amount instead.
Regardless, the tea was nice and comforting. Very creamy with a hint of coconut (though it was hard to tell).
The real star of the lunch was the Banh Mi. They weren’t kidding when they had freshly baked bread. It was just like the mural described; light and crusty on the outside and airy on the inside. The meat was tender and savory and the vegetables looked fresh and had an excellent crunch.
The vegetables come mixed in a separate bag (likely to preserve freshness and allow the customers to add what they want). The mix included pickled Daikon (an Asian radish), carrots, jalapeños, cucumbers, and cilantro. I added everything to get the full experience (even though I’m not a fan of cilantro).
Since this is a sandwich shop, it’s a good idea to have a few napkins on hand since stuff can drop out when eating.
A fair warning, the cheapest drinks are about $6.00 each. And the sandwiches are around $9.00 though they are fairly large.
It might be pricey but the quality of the food was excellent. Definitely worth...
Read moreWow... I was going to just drive through taco johns to grab a quick ... well who knows what. I really was just heading to the closest reliable place for lunch. That is when I saw Yummy Banh Mi. It looked neat. Bright colors and something new. So I figured I'd stop in and at least take a look. Honestly, I was more intrigued by the thought of a Vietnamese Sandwich and had to know what that was. So long review short, I stopped. Lisa the manager was great at explaining what would be good based on my desire for traditional versus more Americanized options. But I'm pretty adventurous so I went all in. I had the number 1 which is one of the more traditional Banh Mi Sandwiches. It came out and I asked her to cut it in half because I was sure I wouldn't eat the whole thing. Boy was I wrong. The bread is crusty but super soft on the inside so it doesn't feel like a ton of carbs. It comes out with the meat, Pate, and mayo in the bread but then you also get a side of veggies and sauce that can be added to your liking. I added everything but only about half of the Jalapeños which for me was the correct amount. Wow it was a flavor explosion. The combination of sweet to spicy was amazing. Then add cilantro and it was exceptional. Honestly it was a very pleasant surprise and stopping there was probably my best...

I had the "Pork Belly Banh Mi" (#3 on the menu)
It's kind of the "standard" sandwich there - and boy is it fantastic
Delicious Baguette bread Pork Belly (basically sliced pork chop) Mayo based Sauce (I'm not a mayo fan but DO NOT skip the sauce - it's so good) Assorted Veggies (the veggies come on the side by default, so you can pick what to put on - I didn't use the included cucumber or jalapenos - just the Carrot/Onion/Cilantro) Sweet Brown Sauce
Do yourself a favor, and just order the #3 Pork Belly Banh Mi and put the included veggies on
I'm not a veggie or a sauce guy usually - but trust me and just have it as it comes, you won't regret it. They are also incredibly fresh, the crunch and flavor really adds depth to the sandwich
Only $9 for the sandwich too! I saved half for later, and I'm happily full
They also have a huge variety of Fruit Teas that are worth getting - I got a Strawberry one and it was very good, those are kind of pricey though, almost $7 for one - but worth it to get the full experience of eating there
The service was outstanding as well, very nice staff who were very appreciative of your patronage
I wish I could give it a score higher than 10/10 - because this place is a 15/10
Delicious and such a value...
