Gigi's Parlor — Restaurant in Hickory

I wasn't going to write another ad or whatever but I did go to this place last week, thank you Google for reminding me, and indelibly delightful and succinctly necessary was this place all at the same time. We were sparked to enter by a 7 year old dancing with a menu or sign or something- cute kid- nothing more promising than seeing a kid be working for money BEFORE he be eligible for a work permit. Good work kid. We were greeted promptly at the door- the AC was being repaired that afternoon, and I appreciate her informing me there was one, bc I will definitely return to that place this summer. I looked at a menu - shaved ice is the hook on this barge, and it's very good... I got coconut, I'm into coconut everything if it's a beverage or a dessert, I think eating coconut is nasty though, unless it's in Indian food. ( Like Coconut Curry Chicken ) The price for the all that we got was what so deeply connected with me, I'm dry it's ok, and I'm poor, I want to say the half sub sandwiches are 3 or 4 dollars- thank you, for buying your materials and to have kept your business affairs tame, to be able to offer your finished product for not much more than the proverbial 100% that for ages has enticed retailers to start a business and kept them fed also. Also thank you for keeping things really simple, or simply real however you say it these days, you have made a new customer and a new friend, I feel-. I felt I've welcomed like a guest in there, way beyond the bindings even that seem to pervade this particular area of town, for those of us who actually grew up in Hickory. I spent no more than $10 in there (two or three of us ate I think- they NEED some real customers) and I remember specifically wishing the place was on 127 or right off of it. I think the place has room to grow, fertilizer from the town to sprinkle on it, and a product- lunch- more specifically that should stand the test of time and is so basically commanded locally. My family and I love this place! It is very family friendly, and has such a wide selection of flavor options! There is literally something for everyone... even down to the pickiest of picky. 😉 I like that the vegan/plant-based members of my family can have great options as well. The decor is reminiscent of the 1950s-60s and for some it's nostalgia but for others (like me) it's a peek into what yesteryear must've been like. If you get a chance to catch the owner there herself she's a gem to speak with....
