My best friend, a.k.a. the love of my life, and I had the pleasure of dining at 98 Asian Bistro. A cultural culinary gem in High Point NC. The moment we stepped in, we saw that great care and attention to detail went into the design of the establishment. We attended a City of High Point function a few weeks back and met Tu, the owner. After talking with her, we knew right away that we wanted to visit this unique place. The decor brings beautiful Asian zen to the heart of our town. We had Soft Spring Rolls with Thai iced tea for starters. Gorgeously wrapped rice paper fresh veggie rolls with peanut sauce. The tea was expertly prepared with a perfect amount of cream. Next, we shared the White Pepper and Garlic with chicken. A mildly spicy dish that invigorated my taste buds with flavors of the east. We also shared my new favorite. Duck Basil, crispy duck legs and sliced breast. Every savory bite was taken with patience and care to allow my senses to take in the flavor of this amazing dish. Each morsel taken in was like the chef was telling me a story through his craft while never speaking a word. It was so nice to see such culture in our immediate area. I may not have had such an experience in Asian dining since my last visit to San Francisco. I can't wait for our return to try the pho.

98 Asian Bistro is a great spot to get delicious Asian food. The lettuce wraps are fresh and crispy while the chicken is flavorful. The entrees come with either a crispy roll or soft roll, which is unique. My wife and I enjoyed the freshness of the soft rolls, and the dipping sauce for them is good. The chicken pad Thai was very good. I added some hot chili oil to amp up the spiciness, which is one of four items available on the spice tray. And to finish off the meal, we greatly enjoyed the coconut ice cream which was rich and creamy and sweet—a perfect end to the meal. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is very traditional and also soothing. We will definitely be back!

This restaurant is absolutely beautiful! The decor makes quite an impression. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu for take out and was sorely disappointed. The spring roll was really good, but the Pad Thai was just a block of congealed noodles with sugary orange sauce all over. No vegetables (aside from two long green onions), just stuck together noodles in sugar sauce. It was pretty flavorless, so obviously no seasoning of any kind was used. It was quite possibly the worst Pad Thai I've ever had. It wouldn't take a whole lot of effort to stir the noodles while they were cooking so they didn't stick together, and maybe add a few vegetables and some seasoning.

Note to diners: Specify while ordering if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, as ingredients can be found in your dish that are not listed on the menu. *

I have dined at this establishment for the last four years, and the past experiences were great. Last night, I was made to feel that my patronage was not at all appreciated.

My decision to share online was a result of the owner/chef's poor handling of the situation, and I am being both accurate and honest with my description of the dining experience below.

Our dining experience started off on the wrong footing, but that is bound to happen when you are waiting 1+ hour for your entrees - it was not our main concern however. Below are the two main issues we had with our experience:

After discovering mushrooms in all of our dishes, 4 guests including myself sent back our meals to be remade. Three dishes were brought back out quickly and there were still remnants of mushrooms, and the waiter stated the 4th dish was being remade so it would be a few moments longer.

Our group went ahead with our meal, but after paying the bill, we kindly asked our waiter to clarify whether all of the dishes were remade. He stated that only one was, the Pad Thai, and the others just had the mushroom removed.

I made an effort to share my experience with management, as I felt the matter could have been avoided altogether, however the manager was dismissive of our concerns. I was advised to speak with the owner/chef who would handle it directly, but the situation got worse from there.

I complained that mushrooms were not listed on the menu as one of the ingredients, despite every other ingredient being listed, and she replied that it was a vegetable and therefore I should be understanding. I let her know that is not acceptable, as people can have allergies or dietary restrictions.

Perhaps she was stressed or had a long night, but the conversation ended with the owner/chef telling me I was not listening to her & with her demanding I inform her what she could do to fix the situation.

I replied that I was just sharing my experience and bringing it to her attention, so she can address the situation for the future, rather than just posting directly to Yelp or other social sites. Then I calmly walked away as not to engage further.

Her reply to my review is expected, but it’s worth noting that she is grossly misrepresenting how she handled the situation and is outright lying about having remade all the dishes and the...

We recently hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner for my daughter and her husband at the Bistro in their new lounge, and I cannot say enough good things about the whole experience. First, we were treated like royalty from the beginning to the end. The owners and the wait staff, who are always friendly and extremely efficient, outdid themselves that night. I didn't have to do anything except enjoy myself, and that was a huge treat during a busy wedding weekend! The FOOD! Oh my goodness -- it was fantastic. We are regulars at the restaurant so I knew the food would be delicious. Our guests were very impressed and couldn't stop talking about how great it all was. They have an excellent bar with a wide variety of beer and wine plus a selection of special drinks (I love the Thai--tini) and service was quick despite the large number of people. There was nothing negative about the entire night -- they even boxed up our leftovers from the buffet so we had lunch the next day! Whether you're looking for an event venue or just a delicious lunch spot, I recommend 98 Asian Bistro...
