This was my first time ordering from this restaurant. I had heard wonderful things about this place. The food was so tasty I ordered two days in a row but lack of customer service, not being flexible when catering to customer needs and greediness will cause this restaurant to lose good customers. The second evening I placed my order I decided to look at my food when I reached my vehicle. They had left several things out so I had to go back inside. I was explaining to the young man (Cashier) what had happened. Very nice young man by the way! He was looking at my order and asking me what was missing when this short Latino guy walks up and basically took over our conversation which I thought was ill-mannered and rude to the young man that was taking care of my problem. I had to explain everything all over again. I told him what happened. The way he reacted you would have thought I made the mistake! He was very impolite! I had to explain to him that I had two orders of potato salad which they had left off. He gave me one and said "oh you will have to pay for the second one." I said look at the order, it is plain as day that I ordered two. One came with the meal and the other I ordered separately. He says but we didn't charge you but for one. So we went back and forth about a little container of potato salad. I thought to myself he wants me to go back outside for a second time for a mistake they made. One my order wasn't right the first time which caused me to go in and secondly he wanted me to go back outside and get a few dollars for an order of potato salad from one of many mistakes they made on my order. In my mind I was thinking "Wow" I spent over $75 the past two nights and you are hassling me over a $2.99 order of potato salad. First you have disrupted my evening by having me come back in and let you know my order was wrong (in the meantime my food is getting cold) and then you want me to go back outside and come back in for a few dollars from the several mistakes you made. Obviously, he doesn't know that promptly taking care of customers' needs is an essential part of good customer service instead of standing over the counter going toe to toe with me. Someone needs to explain to him that making several mistakes on an order and then turn around and ask me to pay a few dollars for potato salad on a $50 order and not apologizing one time will decrease the customer, the customer's family and friends likelihood of returning to the restaurant again in the future. Most restaurants would have kindly apologised and turned this mishap into a positive experience by extending the potato salad to me at no charge. Customer - oriented restaurants should understand that the business will not thrive unless it consistently improves customer focus and when you make a mistake put the needs of the customer over the needs of your business. By the way during the going back and forth conversation he said to me "This is a business." I am very disappointed by University Kitchen's lack of customer service. I really thought this would be my go to spot for Southern cooking. Boy,...
Read moreSo I have been going to this place for the last 2 years maybe, and for the most part I always get the same thing most of the time. My wife and I just went recently, and I have to say I am sorta disappointed. I always get the chicken Monterey with the potatoes and onions and sweet potato casserole as a side. lately I've been feeling a certain way whenever I go to get it and I figured out what it was today. The chicken is dry and flavorless, no seasoning at all. The bacon doesn't even taste like real bacon, and everything just tastes so commercial without being commercial. You know the big box places have those meals that probably come from a bag thats already prepared and then frozen and all they do is heat and serve. I'm starting to think that this is the same thing, or it's from yesterday, or the day before maybe. Just very unsatisfied with the main entree of the meal, and again I've been getting it for years. Even my sweet potato casserole which I love doesn't taste the same. Now mind you, the dish used to come with some kind of mushroom sauce that they no longer sell anymore, with sauteed mushrooms onions, green peppers, bacon and cheese, plus it was 2 chicken breast. Now I can deal with 1 breast, but for the life of me you need to go back to the old recipe because the meal is no longer worth the money.which explains why I go in every now and then and just get a side of sweet potato casserole and nothing else, but I probably won't be going back to get that anymore. If I go back, I'll probably jump to the pork chops because I used to get those, and see if they've screwed those up also. There's not too many other things on the menu that I'm crazy about at all, the rest of it is just their interpretation of well-known dishes that they've never really done a great job at. Just so you know, I'm a fan of the joint, and doing this review really really hurts, I really used to like some of the menu items. I have my wife and kids saying the same thing about other menu items they would have, just seems to be going in a bad spiral to a bad food joint. Service is usually ok, but bad food and good service doesn't get it done. I'll give it an extra star over what I want to give it based on the past and the casserole, but honestly, 1 star...
Read moreWow! I had to take their five stars down to two. So previously in my experience I came in and order to go, and everything thing was fine. Food was great! BUT one evening I ordered and paid online and went to pick up food. As I walked in an older Caucasian couple was getting checked out and leaving. As I approached the cashier counter , I hear the young lady behind register giving a long drawn out sob story of how she was in a car wreck. This employee ignored me with my food on the counter getting cold beside her and continued to talk about her personal life with patrons. I felt invisible and so disrespected, as an African American woman in the south I'm not a stranger to this type of treatment but it still hurts. I recommend the owners fire that employee. She never acknowledged me, another employee from kitchen walked by several times and noticed the blatant disregard of my presence and advocated on my behalf and handed me my, now lukewarm food. The employee was obviously a manager because on separate occasions I've heard about staff issues being talked and joked about on front of customers. Owners beware sometimes you don't have a diamond in the ruff you have a lump of coal! Not sure how much revenue this young ladies actions have cost you in the past, but rest assured my family and friends will definitely NOT be supporting an establishment where a racist unprofessional employee is front and...
