Alex's House Restaurant — Restaurant in High Point

I became concerned when I walked in, looked above the grill, and saw about a dozen gallon cans of Wesson Lo (sic) Melt artery clogger. I was afraid this would be a place that served my eggs and grits swimming in this faux butter mess.

Fortunately, I was wrong.

Alex’s House serves up a very competent breakfast. The staff is friendly and the food was fresh (see bacon note below) and cooked to order.

Eggs over easy: 3 for the price of 2. Perfect and delicious.

Grits: perfect consistency and good flavor

Bacon: good taste. Could have been a little more crispy. Also, it was cooked about halfway early in the morning. I know this because I saw the Cook take it out of the bin and put it on the grill to finish it the rest of the way. This is a very common practice in this industry. I’m not sure if it bothers me or not.

Waffle: good and correctly done, but it was sweet only and not malty. I like a waffle with a little bit of malt in it.

Tenderloin: good flavor, pan fried, nicely lightly seasoned. Slightly overcooked, it was a bit try and a bit tough.

Coffee: I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty good coffee. They also have real half and half (or was it milk?) on the table.

Toast: “buttered”, I believe, with the aforementioned Wesson Lo (sic) Melt cooking oil. Ick.

Alex’s has quite a few regulars that come in, including one bearded blowhard whose loud, obnoxious voice was exceeded only by his apparent belief that he is an expert on everything. His carping with the cook was amusing to a point, but it went on a little too long.

Overall, Alex‘s house makes a pretty good breakfast. 3 1/2 stars would be a more correct rating, but if I have to choose a whole number, I’m...

This is by far one of the best small local restaurants that’ serve a good lunch and breakfast ! The owner is a amazing down to earth friendly person , he’s from Greek and I love how they embrace that in the inside of the restaurant. We go here all the time just make sure you have CASH$$$ they don’t take card . They are only open at a certain time and close before the evening time . Delicious breakfast and lunch highly recommended ! Friendly staff and great service ,, waitress are always friendly . They’ do have small parking and it does get packed at times … but very worth it . And not that pricey …. Waffles and pancakes are big to if your big on that . They make you feel welcomed for sure … it’s not that big inside about 8-9 booths and countertop you can sit at . But love this place I’m sure u guys...

I've been going to Alex's house for over 15 years and not once have I had to send my food back or complain about the service. Today was the day. I ordered a western omelette "WELL" and when my food arrived, the egg was cooked appropriately on the outside but as I cut into it, the egg was runny (wet) where you could clearly see the egg mixture was not thoroughly cooked. I asked the waitress if they could cook it longer; the same omelette was returned to my table, practically burnt on the outside and the inside still under-cooked. At this point , I asked the waitress if I could speak to the manager. When I explained what was wrong, the manager outright EXCLAIMED, he cooked it twice, he's busy, and what do I want from him. REALLY!!!! Needless to say, this is the last time I'll be going to...
