We just visited for the first time after reading reviews/seeing pictures online. One of my favorite things to do with my kids is to go to kids' museums, and I've been to ones all over NC (Marbles - Raleigh, Life & Science - Durham, Children's Museum of Alamance County - Graham). I would compare this place to Marbles in terms of activities, but not quite as large. Fun, interactive exhibits for kids to use their imagination. Toys were in good shape. They do not allow outside food, and their cafe is very minimal (think small, bland finger food/cold cuts) so I would advise eating a good lunch prior to spending an afternoon there.
Compared to my favorite kids museum (Life & Science), the interactions with staff here were underwhelming. No one seemed really happy to be there. And I don't necessarily blame them, kids museums are wild on the weekends. However, when I have been to Life & Science, the staff are happy to answer questions and teach patrons, especially the live-animal exhibits. I didn't feel the same at Nido & Mariana Qubein Children's Museum. In fact, there was one particularly odd interaction that happened at the play-restaurant. I guess one of the cabinets that was supposed to be locked had somehow been opened. Some of the kids were rummaging around in it because it looked like part of the exhibit. A staff member came over and started reprimanding them saying, "what are you all doing?? Absolutely NOT! You are not supposed to be in there!!" The poor woman was visibly stressed as she started taking play food and putting it away while kids were still playing, 3 hours before closing. She went on to say that she had just spent an hour cleaning up the grocery store and that she only had 30 minutes after closing to clean the areas up, which seems unreasonable. I can't even clean my kids' playroom at home in that amount of time. I hope they aren't expected to disinfect toys in that time as well.
I will say, the staff did do a good job keeping the exhibits organized because the toys were in their respective/appropriate areas (automotive shop toys weren't in the grocery store, dentist office, etc.) That should be enough in terms of keeping the place from getting too chaotic. Expecting the toys to be in the exactly right spot is too much when kids are just going to undo it.
The museum is lovely, but I hope they can help their staff to be less stressed and allow for more realistic expectations in terms of cleaning and organizing. I probably won't make the drive out again since I have nicer museums closer (Life & Science for the exhibits/staff, Children's Museum of Alamance County, even if it's smaller, has wonderful, kind staff). But if you're in the Triad - I would check it out during the week/non-busy day, you'd probably have a...
Read moreMan, this place is incredible. Fascination, wonder & endless, awe inspiring fun! There's activities for all ages, even the parents have a blast playing with the kids, it certainly brought out my inner child. It's clear that each exhibit was carefully planned & designed by people with a true passion for learning. They have enormous play equipment throughout, an entire section with make believe rooms stocked with all the toys needed; a kids size ambulance, vets office, doctor, dentist, restaurant, fire station & more. An aquatic play room, complete with mini ponchos. An art + design room, arcade, amphitheater, science labs. Your little ones can solve riddles written in morse code, unlock secret passageways, learn hands on about history, math, innumerable scientific fields, & so much more. Don't even get me started on the outdoor fun. Large playground with a very big sand box that allows you to excavate shark teeth & fossil pieces. A carousel that if im not mistaken I believe is free with admission! I could go on & on. This place is truly unique, a pure imaginative dream! All of that for only $10 a ticket? Incredible. We'll be back many times to make precious memories with our 2 girls while they're still small & impressionable. In addition, the facility is the cleanest I've ever seen, the hours & cost reasonable, I can't find anything negative to say. We were impressed with the staff. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, positive, engaging, etc.
Because this was a pretty long, specific, detailed review, I wanted to say I'm not affiliated with them, don't work for them, I'm just so grateful to have a place for my little girls to learn, grow & play. 😁 I'm pretty passionate about that. 😅 I've never seen anything like it. I'm excited to bring them back regularly. Now you know what to expect when you go too. We'll probably buy the membership. Whether you buy the membership or just tickets, remember that you may need to reserve in advance online. They get so overcrowded sometimes that they are forced to turn you away at the door in order to follow the building...
Read moreWe used to really love this place. We have been coming since they opened and have been members from the start. Our membership ran out over the summer while we were busy with camps and outdoor activities so you can imagine the absolute SHOCK I experienced when I arrived today and was informed of the astronomical price increase on the family memberships! FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS for a family of 5 that includes 2 people that really only need to be added on the rare occasion that they are able to join the smaller children in the family. On top of this, they no longer allow outside food to be brought in, but it seems they really only enforce that rule for a select few. The woman that approached our table today had quite the smug look when she condescendingly told me “we have picnic tables in the parking lot where you can eat.” IN THE PARKING LOT??!! You have got to be kidding me! I have a child with sensory issues that could not care less about your offerings of microwaved pretzels or overpriced energy drinks. You would think that after the hundreds of dollars spent to re-up our membership, my 2-yo child would be allowed to enjoy her yogurt pouch in peace. I would also like to reference an early review that mentioned the poor upkeep of all the attractions. For the amount of money that is paid to this establishment, I would expect there to be regular cleaning and replacement of broken and dirty toys. I understand how hard kids are on just about everything, but by the sheer number of cars in the parking lot leaving little to no parking for anyone else, you would assume the revenue was far beyond what is needed to basic repairs and upkeep. Megan, if you are the one responding to all of the reviews and seem to be the one running the show, I would greatly appreciate a good explanation and probably a refund on my membership. Greensboro science center and many other kid-friendly establishments are much more...
