A Culinary Transformation: Guacamole Mexican Kitchen Shines Bright
I recently revisited Guacamole Mexican Kitchen and Cantina in High Point, and I must say, the dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Under new ownership, this establishment has undergone a remarkable transformation, particularly in the realm of flavors.
Atmosphere: The moment I stepped in, a warm and inviting ambiance enveloped the space. The decor exudes Mexican charm, creating a welcoming environment for diners.
Appetizers: Fresh and Flavorful Starting with the chips and salsa, the freshness was apparent. The warm crisp chips, a delightful departure from the ordinary, paired perfectly with the flavorful salsa. The highlight, however, was the table-side guacamole preparation. The freshness of the ingredients and the customizable options made for a delightful prelude to the main course.
Main Course: Hawaiian Fajitas to Remember Opting for the Hawaiian fajitas was a decision I won’t soon forget. A delectable combination of pineapple, chicken, steak, onions, and peppers, the marinated meat hinted at a unique touch, possibly an infusion of alcohol. The slight char on the vegetables added the perfect caramelized note.
Diverse Menu: Beyond the Ordinary What sets Guacamole Mexican Kitchen apart is its diverse menu. Mexican street corn, empanadas, birria tacos, and the intriguing mocajete – a testament to the culinary creativity that sets this establishment apart. The variety of beans (refried, black beans and charro beans), including the well-seasoned charro beans, added an extra layer of satisfaction to the meal. In addition to the tantalizing array of traditional Mexican dishes, I was surprised with a captivating fusion twist - Mexican sushi.
Drinks: Mixology Mastery The barrel-rolled custom margarita cart deserves special mention. The meticulous preparation at the table, with fresh fruit and quality spirits, elevated the drinking experience. A thoughtful addition to an already impressive menu.
Service: Attentive and Hospitable The staff demonstrated a commitment to hospitality, with attentive service throughout the meal. The custom margarita preparation and the guacamole cart showcased a dedication to engaging the diners in a memorable experience.
Final Verdict: A Culinary Gem Guacamole Mexican Kitchen and Cantina has emerged as a culinary gem in High Point. From the revamped flavors to the diverse menu and personalized touches, every aspect speaks to a commitment to culinary excellence. If you seek a Mexican dining experience that goes beyond the ordinary, Guacamole Mexican Kitchen is...
Read moreWhen Aqui es Mexico succeeded Guacamole at this location last year, one thing became clear not long thereafter: this place is different. Aqui es Mexico offers both traditional dishes not always available elsewhere as well as interesting fusion offerings such as Mexican sushi. Add to that an active social media presence and some tantalizing specials (i.e. $5 Wednesdays or half-priced app Fridays), and if nothing else, Aqui es Mexico deserves credit for trying to separate itself from the pack.
My wife and I visited on a Friday night to find the place busy, but given how big the restaurant is, we had no trouble getting a table. Colorful murals adorned the walls, and the atmosphere can best be described as lively. The music is loud, but unless someone is celebrating a birthday (they go all-out in recognizing that here), it isn’t overwhelming.
The menu is extensive, and I appreciated the page’s worth of seafood offerings. Whether you’re in the mood for the tried and true (burritos/tacos/fajitas) or want to try something different (the aforementioned sushi, several different molcajetes, more margarita variations than you knew existed), Aqi es Mexico has you covered. Hungry and eyeing leftovers, we went with an empanadas starter, carnitas, and cochinita pibil.
Beto provided excellent service throughout the meal, and the kitchen was impressively fast and efficient. Though it was a busy night, we got our food quickly. The pricing was moderate – entrees in the teens – and we got a good amount of food for our money.
For as much thought went into the menu and décor here, it’s unfortunate that the food wasn’t as impressive. Our empanadas (two beef and two chicken) looked great as they were fried to a golden brown. The beef were tasty, but the chicken were decidedly bland. The cochinita pibil was nicely sauced though not as intensely flavored as I’ve had elsewhere. Ditto the carnitas, which were appealingly crispy on the outside but underseasoned. The sides were your standard rice/beans/salad, akin to what you’d find in many Mexican restaurants in the area.
Because nearly everything else – service, ambiance, menu variety – was a plus here, I definitely wouldn’t rule out a return to Aqui es Mexico. Here’s hoping they can up their...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant three times now, today's lunch being the third time. In my opinion, there is nothing bad to be said about the quality of the food. Everything tastes so fresh and authentic and I have been genuinely impressed by the flavor. However, today's experience with the service my family and I received absolutely diminished anything good I thought about this place. Let it be known that every time I have been here the service has been less than satisfactory. Today was on another level though.
My husband and I ordered enchiladas rancheras with chicken instead of pork, and my mother-in-law ordered enchiladas del rancho with no chorizo. Everyone else at the table (there were 6 of us) ordered straight from the menu; no substitutions or changes. Only ONE of our plates came out correctly. We tried explaining to the waiter that it was incorrect, but I could tell he did not understand. He brought out some more food and it was still wrong. This poor man made at least 6 trips with different plates of food before we finally settled for what he brought us. We weren't being picky, it was just flat out the WRONG FOOD. My plate was actually never correct, but I was late for work, so I just ate the wrong food.
Our waiter could not speak English and struggled to understand anything we asked for. After about 30 minutes of waiting, a waitress I have had in the past came up and asked us if we needed anything. She was very nice and got us what we needed. What I am most upset about is our waiter made no effort to get another waiter/waitress to help us, got visibly upset with US for HIS mistakes, and blamed his mistakes on "issues in the kitchen." He did take some money off the bill, so that's something at least. There were many more small issue, but it is all just too much to explain. It got the point of being humorous.... no enchilada sauce on the enchiladas, refilling someone's drink in someone else's cup, etc.
Guacamole kitchen, thank you for the...
