This place has a super friendly vibe, great food and fair prices. I'm putting it on my list of favorites. It's so close to downtown High Point that you really have to stop in. No excuses! My favorite is the potato salad. (Oh, I'm vegetarian but I love diners. This place is authentic. There are several vegetarian items on their menu -- not vegan though.) One thing I'd caution you on is that there's construction on Washington Street, and so Google Maps' directions could give wrong instructions. It told me to stop in the middle of the MLK Jr. Drive overpass and then get out and walk! Well, that's definitely not a good idea; despite the construction on Washington, you CAN turn onto Washington off of Centennial. (There might be a "detour" sign near the intersection. You can safely ignore that as the road is clear up to Day Place.) Hey, this isn't the glitzy part of town but this place is worth the trip, so please go check it out. There's also a playground for the kids right across the street at Washington...

Read moreI rated 5 stars across the board for what it is. It's a family-owned fried chicken joint. It is not in a strip mall. It's in a neighborhood. While in town, I did multiple searches and tried this place because many reviewers said it was the best FC in NC. It was really good. The staff aren't teenagers and with the plexi in front of the register, you may have to speak up and repeat yourself. Straight forward menu. It is southern food, chicken, slaw, potatoe salad, greens, etc. All the rest is just messing about if the chicken doesn't deliver- it does. Closest thing to my grandma's Verna Pearl's Sunday chicken back home. The breading was golden, not on the brown side. Inside juicy and perfect temperature- not over done and not under cooked. I read the restaraunt was started in the 70's. We may have sat in original seats. This place set my new standard for fried...
