This place has a super friendly vibe, great food and fair prices. I'm putting it on my list of favorites. It's so close to downtown High Point that you really have to stop in. No excuses! My favorite is the potato salad. (Oh, I'm vegetarian but I love diners. This place is authentic. There are several vegetarian items on their menu -- not vegan though.) One thing I'd caution you on is that there's construction on Washington Street, and so Google Maps' directions could give wrong instructions. It told me to stop in the middle of the MLK Jr. Drive overpass and then get out and walk! Well, that's definitely not a good idea; despite the construction on Washington, you CAN turn onto Washington off of Centennial. (There might be a "detour" sign near the intersection. You can safely ignore that as the road is clear up to Day Place.) Hey, this isn't the glitzy part of town but this place is worth the trip, so please go check it out. There's also a playground for the kids right across the street at Washington Street Park.

I rated 5 stars across the board for what it is. It's a family-owned fried chicken joint. It is not in a strip mall. It's in a neighborhood. While in town, I did multiple searches and tried this place because many reviewers said it was the best FC in NC. It was really good. The staff aren't teenagers and with the plexi in front of the register, you may have to speak up and repeat yourself. Straight forward menu. It is southern food, chicken, slaw, potatoe salad, greens, etc. All the rest is just messing about if the chicken doesn't deliver- it does. Closest thing to my grandma's Verna Pearl's Sunday chicken back home. The breading was golden, not on the brown side. Inside juicy and perfect temperature- not over done and not under cooked. I read the restaraunt was started in the 70's. We may have sat in original seats. This place set my new standard for fried chicken. Loved it.

First time dining here, a no frills local favorite restaurant. I would love to see different seating. All of their chairs are attached to the table, gave a 1970’s fast food restaurant dine-in vibe. There was a constant line of customers. They ONLY TAKE CASH! Limited parking in the lot. Food already prepped, cafeteria style. I think they could turn up the heat a lil more on their steam table. We loved the meatloaf, potato salad and greens. The sweet potatoes were good, with traditional seasoning. I liked the fried chicken. My cousin wanted more seasoning on it. The sweet tea good! We did not try any of the desserts. The macaroni and cheese was nothing special. Typical NC stovetop cheese sauce style. The corn bread was basic and had inconsistent browning. What also impressed us, three meals including drinks for only $40.

Becky’s & Mary’s Restaurant, located in High Point, offers a delightful selection of dishes. Their fried chicken is exceptional, complemented by flavorful cornbread and a delightful sweet yam. Occasionally, they feature turkey neck and gizzard, which are equally enjoyable for those with a taste for such fare. However, it’s important to note that their cuisine leans toward richness, with generous use of butter and sugar. Opinions on this establishment tend to be divisive: some patrons adore the food, while others find it less appealing. I recommend experiencing it firsthand to form your own judgment. Please be aware that this establishment operates on a cash-only basis and is situated in a neighborhood. While some may perceive the area as questionable, I personally have not encountered any issues during lunchtime visits.

Update 9/20/24. Went by around 2:00. One person with a child was being helped at the counter. After the lady took the order she disappeared into the kitchen for a minute and when she came back she helped a person who was behind me. She took his money and then gave him is to go food. Afterwards she took the customer into the kitchen. A couple workers were doing other things and no one had offered to help me or said hello yet. Unfortunately I left. I was really looking forward to eating there being the first time my wife and I came we got great service and the food was amazing. I don’t come to High Point very often so I try to stop by when I can. Our first visit 5 star - Awesome place! Larry and the others were so nice. Food was great!
