My old 5 star post appears below. Alas, tonight was terrible. The bartender was great. We were early, but the place filled to capacity quickly. They were understaffed, and we didn't recognize anyone. I jokingly said to the receptionist, "Take us to Table 14" (our favorite). She told us it had been reserved. Sorry.
I ordered tuna, my wife trout. Then we waited. And waited. Things got crowded and very noisy with a few anxious looking servers.
Finally, everything came out, and my tuna was good solid gray throughout. Flagged down the server, and sent it back. Meanwhile my wife sort of picks at trout. Another 20 minutes later and tuna comes out. This time with a little sliver of pink in the middle and the ends cooked through.
I summoned a manager. She came over and said. "Sorry there was a mix up on the temperature you wanted the tuna at." What? A seafood restaurant?
Well, they comped the tuna. My wife said the trout was "OK."
Our favorite table sat empty all evening. You see, we are the ones who reserved it.
1618 in Greensboro is a great seafood restaurant. Sorry, guys, it's been a lovely ten years.
My Old Post: My wife and I are regulars. This place NEVER disappoints. Just don't go at furniture market time -- you'll never get in. ANYTHING seafood related is off the top good. The Bolognese is also a satisfier if you don't want seafood. Steaks good, too. Service is always very friendly and "on top of things." Highly recommend. The only bad thing is it can be hard to find for a first timer. It is sort of...
Read moreFor a restaurant with such great reviews this was a real disappointment. Our server was great but the chef really let down the whole experience. Mussels to start were ok but there was a vinegary aftertaste to the broth: my wife (her birthday) ordered the filet mignon which in fairness was cooked well and her vegetables were nicely cooked - the sauce was unadventurous but ok. Sadly my main was awful: pecan crusted Halibut on a pesto pasta with crabmeat should have been really nice dish. Unfortunately it presented as packet pasta with a side of pesto swimming in the water from the pasta, very little crab and a small piece of overcooked fish: the whole dish was immediately returned to the kitchen from which not a word was heard: no apology, no suggestion as to what could be done to rectify the poor presentation or use of packet pasta vs fresh; no appearance from a member of the management. This was pretty disgusting from a $50 per plate service. Watching other diners receive their Halibut specials it seems that this place can apparently serve badly prepared and presented food at high price with impunity since a number of our fellow diners received the Halibut “special” looking remarkably like my sad dish. My son is a trainee chef and he would be embarrassed to serve this slop. Sorry Blue Water but you don’t deserve anything but a review at this level. Oh and the bread pudding was more like a muffin than a bread pudding. Bad form and we...
Read moreAlright, listen up y'all. Just got back from a trip up to High Point, North Carolina, and being a fella from Charleston, South Carolina, you know my bar for seafood is set pretty darn high.
We're talking fresh catches, Lowcountry boils, the whole shebang. So, when someone suggested Blue Water Grill, I was a little skeptical, I ain't gonna lie.
Being a bit inland, you just never know. But let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised. Walking in, the place had a good vibe – not too stuffy, not too casual, just a comfortable, welcoming feel.
The menu had a decent selection, and while it wasn't exactly what I'd find down on Shem Creek, they had some interesting choices.
I ended up going with the Halibut, and honestly, it was cooked perfectly. Flaky, moist, and seasoned just right. You could tell they weren't skimping on the quality of the fish.
Now, I'm not saying it's going to replace my favorite spot back home for a plate of shrimp and grits, but for High Point, Blue Water Grill is doing it right. The service was friendly and attentive, and the prices were reasonable.
Honestly, if you're in the area and craving some seafood, don't hesitate to check this place out.
It's a solid option, and it definitely exceeded my expectations. I walked out feeling satisfied, and that's saying something coming from a Charleston boy who knows his way around a seafood platter.
Give 'em a shot, you might just be...
