During a recent visit to Highland Park, I stumbled upon an absolute gem of a restaurant: Backyard Grill. Hungry for some healthy food, I was exploring the area when a local highly recommended this spot. Deciding to give it a try, I walked in and was warmly greeted by a gentleman named Jake, who was very cool and welcoming.
I mentioned to Jake that it was my first time at the restaurant and what I was looking for, and he promptly suggested the oven-roasted chicken plate. Knowing I was in a hurry, he ensured my meal was served quickly. To my delight, the chicken was absolutely amazing—cooked to perfection with a tenderness and flavor that was simply exceptional. The quality of the meat was top-notch, a true testament to the care and expertise in the kitchen.
The accompanying vegetables were of premium quality, enhancing the overall experience with their freshness and flavor. Additionally, the plate included a side of rice with potatoes, which was equally delicious, perfectly seasoned, and satisfying. Intrigued by Jake’s mention of their in-house made gyro meat, I decided to try a side of it as well. Let me tell you, it was the most amazing gyro meat I’ve ever tasted. The richness and depth of flavor were unparalleled, making it an unforgettable addition to my meal.
The establishment itself was very clean, well-staffed, and the service exceeded my expectations. The overall dining experience was wonderful, reflecting a five-star quality despite the casual setting. If you find yourself in Highland Park and are looking for great, healthy food, Backyard Grill is definitely the place to go. The quality of the food and the overall wonderful experience make it a...
Read moreThis is probably one of the worst food pics I've ever taken only because I knew how super delicious everything was going to be and I took it in a hurry to dive in! My husband and I travel through the area a few times a year on the way to see a medical specialist. We discovered this restaurant about 4 years ago and the roasted Greek chicken dinner is ALWAYS a homerun! You know how you hyper fixate on a certain meal, but eventually it loses its shine so to speak, well I keep thinking that will happen with this chicken. But it is consistently amazing. You get a nice big salad or soup, rice with Greek potatoes, freshly cooked vegetables, half or whole chicken, (the whole chicken order only comes with the sides for one like the half chicken, but it could easily feed two) warm pita and a lemon wedge. I happy dance from the first sprinkle of squeezed lemon over my plate on through the last bite. We always have enough to bring home for lunches as well. Such good food that really makes you feel good. Friends back home always ask if I had the chance to stop by during our trips because they know what a highlight it is for us. The atmosphere can be a little loud and echoey at times. I had an injury that makes bright lights and loud spaces pretty painful at times. When we can't eat in, we order for carry out and picnic in the very nearby, super beautiful park with great facilities, Sunset Woods Park. Greek chicken in a beautiful...
Read moreWe are new to the area and we placed a to-go order online. I have a child who wanted plain pasta. I didn't select a sauce and I even put in the note section, "can you just lightly salt? no sauce please." Well, since we are living in a hotel until our housing becomes available, it took a while before we got the food back to the room and started to eat. We open the food and the pasta is covered in cheese. I call the restaurant, explain what happened, and asked if they could just refund the meal because our child won't eat it. Autism doesn't care if it was an honest mistake. He said no. He offered to remake it, and I explained that I have to figure something else out that would be quicker that a 40 min round trip. He then says that he can offer me a credit, and goes on to say "even though I don't think I should." He made it clear that he felt like it was somehow my fault that his kitchen staff didn't get the note about no sauce.
I told him never mind and we would not return to this establishment in the future. That was apparently offensive to him because he began arguing with me and then hung up on me. I have worked in customer service for many years, this was a softball issue. The man may have been having a bad day, but to tell a first time customer that she should have known how their computer system worked and that they were at fault is literally one of the worst ways to have handled it. What a welcome...
