As a long time fan and customer of Mi Cocina regret to leave this extremely poor review. I’ve tried to reach out directly to mngt thru their listed contact on their website and via Facebook Messenger with no reply so I’m forced to leave a review here. Two weeks ago some friends and I were dining at the Highland Park location to celebrate a close friend moving back to Dallas. The meal and service were fine as usual until the unthinkable happened. We were seated on the 2nd floor area, first booth to the right. As we had already finished our meals a patron from the booth next to us regretted to inform us that they had seen a large roach walking across the back-rest of the booth we were sitting in. I turned to my left and looked down. Sure enough a large roach was walking close to my leg. In that moment I didn’t want to swipe it down to the floor or else the ladies at the table would have surely jumped n screamed creating a scene. I sat up and tried to sway it to my right but before I could get to it , it had crawled back into the crease of the seat. Immediately everyone stood up and backed away from the booth. Our night was over. We’re not the type to create a scene so we decided to just pay our tab (which in hindsight we should not have) and leave. As some of our group had gone to the restroom, my friend and I stayed to sign our tab. In those few minutes a 2nd large roach was crawling on a chair nearby. I told the waiter (didn’t get his name) and the bus boy what happened. The bus boy looked freaked out as he had to stomp on the roach to prevent it from crawling anywhere else. As we were walking out downstairs my wife briefly informed a manager what had happened. He apologized and said we should not have paid for the meal but what was done was done and all we wanted to do was leave. I sincerely hope mngt has addressed the issue because if there’s roaches in the dining area they are surely in other places we would rather not think of. Like I said before we’ve dined at this location for many years...
Read moreIt had been years since my last visit to Mi Cocina in Highland Park, and I’m happy to report that it’s just as wonderful—if not better—than I remembered. The service was as impeccable as ever, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the staff went above and beyond to make our experience special.
Due to gluten intolerance and strict dietary needs, I rarely eat out. But Mi Cocina made me feel completely at ease. One of our servers—whose name we unfortunately didn’t catch—was incredibly attentive and helpful, and he kindly recommended a simple grilled chicken breast with plain rice and salad to meet my dietary needs. It was exactly what I needed—clean, fresh, and satisfying. He also explained that while Mi Cocina is gluten-free friendly, there is a possibility of cross-contact, which I deeply appreciated for its honesty and care.
Our other server, Alfredo Aguilar, was also warm, attentive, and professional, helping make the entire dining experience smooth and enjoyable. The hostess greeted us with a friendly smile and set the perfect tone for our evening.
We were a party of nine celebrating my nephew’s birthday, and he was thrilled with his favorite ribeye. The Mambo Taxis were also a hit with the birthday boy! We chose a less busy time to dine so we could enjoy each other’s company with fewer distractions, and it made for a truly relaxed and memorable afternoon.
The only downside was the construction in the parking lot, but honestly—it was well worth it. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, Mi Cocina Highland Park delivered a truly wonderful experience.
I have so many fond memories of past visits, and after this one, I look forward to...
Read moreOur recent visit to Mi Cocina in Dallas was a bit of a letdown, landing squarely at a 3 out of 5 experience. The restaurant came highly recommended by friends and locals alike, which had us excited to try it out. However, after dining there, we couldn’t help but wonder if the glowing reviews meant Dallas might not have a strong Mexican food scene to boast about. The atmosphere was lively and the service was friendly enough, but the food itself didn’t live up to the hype, leaving us questioning whether this was the best the city had to offer in terms of Mexican cuisine.
The cheese enchiladas were a particular disappointment—somehow, they managed to sneak meat into what we assumed would be a vegetarian dish, which threw us off entirely. Meanwhile, the chicken fajitas were dry and lackluster, lacking that juicy, flavorful punch we’d hoped for. Perhaps the biggest telltale sign of the meal’s mediocrity was the chips—usually a reliable indicator of a good Mexican restaurant. They tasted suspiciously store-bought, lacking the fresh, crispy magic you’d expect from a place with such a solid reputation. All in all, it wasn’t a terrible meal, but it certainly didn’t convince us that Mi Cocina—or Dallas Mexican food in general—was anything to...
