I don't normally review on Google. Please don't think that this is my first restaurant review! We went to this place for dinner. The is a new restaurant and their concept is excellent. I also realize that there is a severe shortage of good servers in Dallas especially if you are running a fine dining restaurant. Unfortunately the table for four about fifteen feet away from the big mirror wall just on the left side is what we got. Several times passing servers bumped into my chair because of limited space. TThe same people own three of four other restaurants and I have been to one on Maple and really enjoyed the food. This place is expensive but considering where they are and the type of atmosphere they have, I would expect to pay more. We ordered three of the specials. Wine selection by the glass is good but expensive as expected. Quality of food was very good. The waiter knew about famous places in New York. Servers seemed very young and seemed to really not very well trained. Unfortunately one of the servers spilled sauce from one of the dishes on the dress of someone in my party. She was very uncomfortable as the server had been very generous with his spill. She was polite and did not cause a scene but did let the waiter know what happened. We got a very mild insincere apology and then they poured some extra wine in her glass (without asking if she wanted it!). I would have expected a visit from manager. Some one would have offered to pay for dry-cleaning! I would expect some fake concern and show of remorse. No such luck. To our credit we did give proper gratuity(20%) as it was no fault of the waiter, hostess or any one and the poor server just may not have had enough training or enough room to navigate. Considering where they are located I don't expect them to hurt from my review. If you are visiting from out of town, avoid this place. You can get better Italian food elsewhere. Dallas has many great restaurants and there is no sense in coming all the way to Dallas to eat Italian food. Space around this table is narrow and I cannot imagine this is the first accident and such cold response. Sad end to a birthday dinner. We were not in mood to order desert after that. 8/9/18: About five days later and perhaps after reading the review the manager did call back the person whose dress was spilled upon. He was nice, accepted responsibility and offered a new dress. As far as I know the person is going to see if it can be cleaned instead. As suspected this was a new staff member and that evening the manager probably was not there since it was a Monday night. Their food is excellent and competitively priced with similar...
Read moreWent here for dinner on a whim.
The environment looks nice, the music is non-stop oldies music, which is nice, and they had a nice outdoor balcony area with heat lamps, couches and blankets.
The food was decent for the price. I got the meatballs as an appetizer, approx $14 and you get three. They were decently cooked, fairly loose and moist, but flavor and searing wise they were a bit lacking.
The 100 layer lasagna was super interesting, 100 layers of super thin pasta layered with meat and béchamel, at least in theory. Texture was fun due to all the layers, it was very tender. However, to keep it a manageable size, that means the filling in between in layer is near transparent. The lasagna is served on a bed of sauce, and coated in cheese before being baked, but ultimately this was a fairly ok, decent lasagna. It’s fun for the novelty, but not for $40. The plus side is that if you wanted to split this with an app or two and a drink, the portion size would allow it.
Finally I got a slice of carrot cake, and that was the best part of the meal. Nicely spiced, with chunks of apple, and a very tasty cream cheese frosting.
Service was hit or miss. When I first got there at 6PM not every table was full, but over time service became fewer and sparse from the waitstaff, however, there was a separate person that went around making sure waters were always topped off. She was great.
Overall this was a decent place, but for meatballs, one of their cheapest reds, 100 layer lasagna and carrot cake it was 91 dollars before tax and tip, a bit high for the flavors involved.
Worth going to for a decent Italian dinner if you’re around the area, but it’s not something I would go out of my way for. However, the outdoor patio balcony with some apps and wine might be nice in...
Read moreI recently visited Fechini Restaurant with my neighbor and had an amazing experience. We ordered the Cacio e Pepe pasta, 100-layer lasagna, a salad, and tiramisu to finish. Everything from start to end was memorable.
The Cacio e Pepe was absolutely perfect in my opinion—rich, cheesy, with just the right kick of pepper. I really loved the depth of flavor, especially the balance between the cheese and that freshly cracked pepper. My neighbor, on the other hand, found it a bit spicy and mentioned the pasta was slightly overcooked for her taste—so I think it really depends on personal preference. But for me, it was spot on.
The 100-layer lasagna was just as incredible as I remembered—this was actually my second time having it, and it didn’t disappoint. Each bite was layered with flavor and perfectly balanced. The salad was fresh and simple, a nice contrast to the richness of the pasta.
We ended with the tiramisu, which was a highlight. It was honestly better than many dessert cafés I’ve been to—light, creamy, and full of flavor. It tied the meal together beautifully.
Parking can be a bit challenging since it’s in the Highland Park shopping area, but on the plus side, it's a great spot to walk around and explore after your meal.
If you’re looking for a cozy place with elevated comfort food, flavorful pasta, and desserts worth saving room for—Fechini...
