This wonderful food cart caught my eye the first time I visited Hillsboro Downtown Station AFTER I had already ordered from another food cart. I said to myself, "This is the NEXT food cart I'm trying."
Sure enough, I found this food cart a week later, and I did not regret this decision in the slightest.
The lady who was running the shop was super friendly and inviting. I enjoyed conversing with her, and she was readily answering questions I had about the menu.
I ordered the Pelmeni (which are Russian/Eastern European dumplings filled with meat and served with sour cream, black pepper, and a little soy sauce). That is PURE COMFORT FOOD. Served hot, and eaten while it was cold outside, was like warming my soul. So savory and so warming and filling, I'd return just for these!
I also ordered the Peroshki (which is basically a beautifully flaky and rich Russian/Eastern European hand-pie with hot, savory, rich filling). Again, this was comfort food of the highest degree. The peroshki was MASSIVE, and I ordered the "Russian Reuben" style, which contains hot sliced pastrami, sauerkraut, Russian dressing, and cheese. Served on the side is a Russian coleslaw, which is not your typical creamy sweet cabbage slaw. This is a nice and fresh, tangy, beautiful cabbage slaw that cuts through the richness of your food by adding that necessary acidy note and leaves you wanting more (if you like coleslaw! They serve delicious potato fries if you prefer!). This peroshki was so massive that I had to take half of it home to finish later (However my appetite may be a little less than others!).
If you are looking for delicious, hot, filling comfort food and you love savory food, look no further and give this place a try. If you are on the fence, I always tell friends "You can order food from more than one food cart!" I can attest that after putting the second half of my peroshki in the fridge, it was delicious the...
Read moreI’m giving this cart 3 stars because in the dozen times I’ve been here, you just never know if you’re going to get a 1-star day or a 5-star day. When it’s a 5-star day, it’s delicious and customer service is spot on! Then I’ve been other times when they skimp on the order and customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The last time I went here (to be fair is the worst 1-star day I’ve had with this cart), it was a really busy weekend night and a lot of carts were running out of things. This cart gave me half the amount I normally receive but still charged me for the full price. When I asked about it, the older women cooking became defensive and told me I received the correct amount I’m supposed to get. I understand it was busy and she was probably trying to stretch the remaining rations in case more people ordered the same thing after me but I shouldn’t be charged for a full order then. The whole encounter left a bad taste in my mouth and I haven’t been back since, which was a shame because I was ordering from this cart every 1-2 weeks. Maybe I’ll try it again someday in the future or maybe a more consistent dumpling cart will open before...
