Nestled in the heart of Hillsborough, this cafĂŠ is a true hidden gem that combines warmth, charm, and an exceptional culinary experience. From the moment I stepped in, I felt welcomed by the cozy ambiance and delightful aroma of freshly brewed coffee and pastries. This place is more than just a cafĂŠâitâs a retreat, an experience, and a haven for anyone seeking quality in both food and atmosphere.
First, the menu is a masterclass in balancing simplicity with innovation. Their coffee is genuinely superbârich, smooth, and obviously crafted with care. They offer a great selection of options, from classic espresso to seasonal specialties that showcase the skill and creativity of the baristas. The almond milk latte, in particular, had a beautiful balance, and the foam art was a lovely touch that showed their attention to detail.
Beyond the coffee, the food here is next-level. I tried their avocado toast, and it was hands down one of the best Iâve ever had. Thick, rustic bread topped with ripe avocado, a hint of citrus, and just the right amount of seasoning. They also offer a selection of freshly baked pastriesâif youâre a croissant lover, their almond croissant is flaky perfection with a subtle sweetness that pairs perfectly with any coffee choice.
The cafĂŠ itself is charming, with tasteful decor and a comfortable seating arrangement that caters to solo visitors, couples, and small groups alike. Thereâs a distinct community vibe; the staff are friendly and seem genuinely invested in making sure each guest has a great experience. Even on a busy morning, the service was attentive, thoughtful, and never rushed. They made me feel like a valued guest, which is rare these days.
One of the standout features of this place is the little outdoor seating area, a peaceful spot to enjoy breakfast or lunch surrounded by greenery. Itâs a nice touch that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a moment, making it an ideal spot to bring a book or enjoy some quiet time.
Lastly, the prices are...

Probably the best cafĂŠ I have been to in the state of NJ, perfectly balanced aromatic coffee and either perfectly moist and density balanced pistachio doughnuts or crunchy and warm for all the pastries that need to be that way (insert focaccia).
Phenomenal art/ spacial conscious atmosphere and equally as good and charismatic of a service. Please come, you won't regret it.. no I don't work for them and I can prove it.
Long version: For the travelled folk that spend their weekends in NYC strolling Soho for the newest competitor and upcoming culinary experience and happen to be crossing the lowlands of the once upon a time garden state, you will find the same level of care, perhaps more into the coffee craft.
In their coffee-ish section you will find your classic staples of Lattes, Capuccinos or espressos... for the adventurous you will find blood orange, Turmeric and Pistachio infusions ( they are really into pistachios here) but who isn't ? ( please do not show yourself, I am NOT your friend).
We went ahead and went for the a non adventurous, "granola yet often not well done" option of an iced latte with oatmilk.
"If you are wondering how an iced latte with oatmilk can go wrong I can absolutely explain:
Too much ice Too little ice Too much "milk" Too little milk Good balance but crappy oatmilk Too little "nip" in the coffee
Should I keep going? No ?
Good..
Anyways, it was perfect, they also collaborate with artists, musicians, they announce it too so you don't come on an eventful day/evening if you are not looking for said event.
If you are a coffee human you will get it.
Five out of five stars, not just any stars.. like the huge red super giants, such as Antares A, VI Canis Majoris and UY scuti, here is a video for...

I was so excited to visit It's a Hidden CafĂŠ and support a new small business in town. As a barista and Hillsborough local who loves working with values-aligned businesses, I was especially delighted to meet the owner. Upon first entry, I was greeted with what seemed to be incredible warmth and felt genuinely connected to his enthusiasm for community. It was refreshing to see such passion from a young small business owner.
Unfortunately, my experience took a disappointing turn. During my visit, I asked a few too many questions about the coffee process, admittedly at the wrong time. Instead of a constructive or understanding response, I was met with an entirely unprofessional and deeply upsetting reaction that left me feeling unwelcome and hurt. It was disheartening to have such a sharp shift in the interaction, especially from someone who initially made me feel so inspired to support the business.
I later tried to extend an olive branch by acknowledging my role in the encounter and offering a small apology. I hoped to hear back, but I never received a response.
I still hope the owner can grow from this experience and learn to treat everyone with the same kindness and warmth he so wonderfully displays when welcoming people into the cafĂŠ. This could be such a special space for our community with the right approach to customer relationships. For now, Iâm hesitant to return, but I sincerely wish the business all the best...
