Mixx On Main — Restaurant in Hilton Head Island

Are you kidding me? I mean are you seriously kidding me? This is as much a Mexican Restaurant or a place that serves Mexican food, as McDonald's is a 3 star restaurant. The food is at best TERRIBLE! At worst, its food is never something you’d feed an animal dying of starvation. I can not ever remember eating such bad food. And then having said food be called food from my Families nation. I’d be willing to bet, that your supposed “Chef” is not Mexican! And more than likely has never been to Mexico. I have no idea how or why you are listed in some publications as Mexican. But, nothing of what you call Mexican food, is actually Mexican. I’d pick apart everything from your so called “Street Tacos” to your fish tacos, enchiladas Etc. Nachos, Fajitas and Chimichangas, are not Mexican food! That’s Tex Mex or I’ll be nice and say “Caucasian” people Mexican food. I can’t say one good thing about this place. Even the outside of the building is gross. Walk around the side of the building. There’s a trash bin, boxes and bags of trash when we went. Cigarette butts everywhere. Found this little gem using Google maps. Not sure how people found these restaurants tucked away behind main arteries in Hilton Head before GPS. Parking lot filled up fast at lunch time. Didn't have to wait to be seated in a booth. They also have table seating inside and out. Our server was fast and friendly and gave us enough time to read through the menu while she got our beverages. This is a Coke restaurant (no Pepsi). Hubby ordered the Pork Tacos with Charro beans and rice. He absolutely loved them. The tacos were filled to the top. Beans were very flavourful and the rice was cooked perfectly. His only complaint was the taco shell could have been double wrapped. One completely fell apart so he had to eat with utensils. Next time will ask for a double wrap. I had the Chicken sandwich, blackened chicken with tomato, lettuce and onion. Served on a bun. The blackening on the chicken was delicious, just the way I like it. Not overly burn your mouth hot but just enough heat that you can taste and enjoy it. Fries were decent. Both meals were perfect size for lunch. We went to Mixx on Main for the first time after our daughter’s volleyball game with our family and in-laws. The hostess was very friendly and sat us quickly, but that’s where the positives ended. It took quite a while for our server to even come by, and when she did, the service felt rushed and careless.

One of the pasta dishes came out completely wrong, and instead of apologizing, the waitress seemed annoyed. The chicken on one of the salads smelled spoiled, and the taco shell on another salad was clearly stale and tasted days old. Unfortunately, no one at our table enjoyed their meals.

To make matters worse, the waitress disappeared for a long stretch and returned smelling like smoke, which was disgusting during dinner service. For a place with so many good reviews, I’m not sure what happened...maybe an off night or a temp cook—but our experience was awful from start to finish. We left completely disappointed and won’t be...
