Castaways Raw Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Holden Beach

This was my third time to castaways. Decent food for price. Tonight i went with my daughter and wife, we just have got married this week AT holden beach. Our server taylor was fresh out of mcdonalds to say the least. I asked about drink and food options and she had NO CLUE. So i said i would look over menu and ask bar tender about the drinks. I went to bathroom spoke to bar tender and he was arrogant and said place my order with server...i repeated what i wanted and said i would like that now plz in a confussed state. We reciived our appitizer and wasnt happy with the small ammount of salsa to go with chips ..basically we ended up with bunch of chips no salsa. With the beautiful ladies i was with 1 yr old daughter and new wife bit my tounge. I was thinkin wow these ppl make so much money they dont care about a tip and where is the manager! Do they just have teenagers running this place?! I asked several times for the RIGHT cole slaw and finalyy said ILL PAY WHATEVER JUST PLZ GIVE ME THE COLE SLAW I ASKED FOR 5 TIMES!. now im gettin hot. Now im wanting to not leave a tip...even though i would tip deserved or not. So i get the bill and realize i didnt have enough cash, and realized i needed to go out to the car to get the rest of my cash bc i had took out of atm....and didnt want to use credit.....i put what cash i had in bill envelope..(was 25$) ran outside to geet rest....maybe i would of told server but she had been non existent all nite...got off stairs where wofe was waiting and hear ppl yelling. I said hey im getting reat of cash! Sry.....the manager finnally showed and was rude also...there were 5 ppl who had worked there and probley whole restraunt to see the spectacle!....so embarrassing. I had plenty of cash. Dont look like i meed cash much either...jaw dropping. After the manager said ud be supprised several times i left rest of cash with small tip and said are u out of ur mind im here with my daughter and wife and that was emmbarrasing...no appology. And told server as we left i had left a undeserved tip for her also....WHILE WE WERE DRIVING OFF....AFTER WE HAD PAID IN FULL! AN SEVER WAS TAKING OUR PHOTOGRAPH!!WHAT!? THAT IS WHAT MADE ME THE MADEST. NOT ONLY DID U GIVE ME POOOR SERVICE AND THINK I WAS A CROOK....U PHOTOGRAPH ME AFTER I PAID IN FULL!! WHEN FOOD WAS AT BEST..OK. i would deff. Not recomend this place. Ill tell the story again and post a pic of my beautiful family on facebook on the friends of holden...

We ate at Castaways for dinner on our own and liked it so much we brought the kids for lunch 2 days later. For dinner, we shared crab cakes, crab dip, & an order of crab legs. 🦀🦀🦀 Everything was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. JB & Friends provided the perfect musical accompaniment that night. For lunch with the kids, my older son had the shrimp burger, which I managed to blink and miss him actually eating 👀 He said it was tasty, which it must have been to disappear in what seemed like 30 seconds 😄 He chose chili cheese fries as a side, which were served with chili & cheese on the side. I wish everywhere did that, honestly, then your fries stay crisp. I had the pound of peel and eat shrimp. You could choose hot or cold. I got mine hot & they were delicious 😋 my husband got the lobster bisque and the lobster ravioli. 🦞 We all sampled a bit of those & had no complaints there. My youngest got just a side order of fries, which were perfectly crispy shoestring fries. He has a lot of French fry experience (picky eater 😄) and he ate almost the whole basket. Best fries of the trip by far in the opinion of this particular 4 year old. Nothing fancy, just salt & fried right. I think we're coming back to Holden Beach next year, and if so, we'll definitely be coming back to...

Do NOT eat here! I checked the menu out online ahead and saw many good reviews. After trying to have dinner at Castaways, I wonder if everyone was drunk when they wrote their reviews. The menu lists many items as gluten friendly. We started with the GF spinach artichoke dip and bbq chicken bits. Both listed GF. After they were brought to table, server asked if we could eat gluten because the chicken bites were breaded in flour. She was nice-ish about it. Said she had been telling the owner to change the menu, but she wouldn’t. The dip was fine, chips were stale. Ordered GF ribs and fries. AFTER the fries were served at the table, was told they might have gluten. Server returned with an ingredient list, that had no wheat or gluten listed. They were out of corn tortillas so the GF tacos were out. Ended up ordering the Cajun mahi. It was small, cooked poorly and had next to no flavor. Another person in our party got the shrimp and sausage. It was alright, but nothing special. GF kid wanted a hot dog w/ no bun. Paid $8.50 for a bunless dog, because we had to pay for the side and drink too… Don’t bother going here unless you have no food and everywhere else is closed, then maybe drive somewhere else if you can.
