We are locals and visit this location frequently. We have always had amazing food and service. Everyone who visits knows provisions has a unique way of operating, you go in, order at the counter, get seated, they bring out your food, drinks are self serve from the cooler or drink fountain. It’s on the honor system and you pay at the end. I’ve never sat at the bar before. When we arrived 2/4 of our party was there. We were politely told we would have to wait for our entire party to be seated (absolutely understandable) so we asked if we could sit at the bar and wait. We gladly moved to the bar, greeted by the super friendly bartender who served us a delicious bushwacker and drank until our friends arrived. When they did we enjoyed a few more cocktails with wonderful and attentive bar service from the nice blonde bartender. Once we were hungry we asked the bartender if we could order food but sit at the bar. She said yes, go to the counter and order and they will bring it out to the bar. The restaurant was very busy, so 2/4 of us went to order food while the others stayed to reserve the bar seats. When it was our turn to go order food, we were very nastily talked to by the waitress and talked down to for not ordering all on the same ticket since we were one party and they had already put the food for our friends through. We kept apologizing and asking what can we do to make it easier/ fix the situation (move to a new table, start separate tickets etc) she offered no solutions just huffing and puffing. She asked if we had a bar tab and I told her we had been siting at the bar but I personally was never asked my name or for a card to keep the tab open (I assume the nice bartender had some way of keeping track, also this is on the honor system and we all had only had one drink at this point so it wasn’t hard to remember) the waitress proceeds to get visibly irritated, says she’s “tired of this shit” and fetches the bartender from the bar to confront her about not keeping a tab open for us that resulted in a very awkward exchange for everyone involved. We finally get our food put in and proceed back to the bar. Needless to say we were all very uncomfortable now, including the bar tender and didn’t much enjoy the rest of our time there. My friend had met to ask the waitress in the pink shirt if the shrimp was local (she’s allergic to farm grown shrimp since they typically give them penicillin and she is allergic to penicillin) after eating her delicious meal she starts to break out in hives so we quickly leave (this is not the fault of provisions AT all, we should have asked but the waitress was so mad at us/ the bartender we just forgot and I’ve been told in the past they used local shrimp). When we go to pay the pink shirt waitress looked at all four of us and and sighed as if she was annoyed. She split our ticket and we swiftly excited. All this to say one bad experience with someone who was obviously having a bad day doesn’t make for the reputation of this great spot. I do recommend this place but I was so sad that this is the first impression for my 3 friends who will not be back unfortunately due to how we...
Read moreThis place is an EXPERIENCE! We are from Pa and visit NC often. This was our first time in Holden and ProCo was suggested by a friend.
100% try this place out if you like seafood in a SUPER relaxed atmosphere. It's definitely t-shirt/ casual/ relaxed attire so don't get dressed up like i did 🤣🤣🤣
You walk up stairs, order food from the menu/ front counter area and wait for seating out side on the deck (great views!) If they are busy or find a table in the dinning room. It's an enclosed deck so it can be a little warm at times but we went in the middle of summer and it was comfortable. When your food is up they will call your name. Name sure you give them an easy clear name bc it can get noisy in there on weekends!
You pay on your way out. You go to the counter. Tell them your name and they pull up your order and pay. Kinda odd system but whatever- it works for them so it must work! The staff is AMAZING. super sweet waitress and food comes out fairly quick.
We got the daily specials a few times which were combinations peel your own shrimp boils/ Coleslaw/ crab cakes (🤤) some sort of (okayish) potatoe salad and or cucumber & tomatoes salad which is freakin delicious!
The Cole slaw was the best d*mn slaw we ever had. I had to fight my teenager off from eating mine 🤣🤣🤣
Crab cakes were so I could have cried! Hands down beats anything from Maryland- I said what I said! We definitely don't have crab cakes like this in Philly!
The corn is ...not great. 😫 literally my ONLY complaint
Things to know before you go....
the bathroom is down stairs to the left before you walk up the steps. They are clean and well maintain but keep in mind when your gotta go... you gotta go DOWN stairs and outside! So plan accordingly 😆
There's a stairway up/down but thankfully they also have a wheelchair ramp which I am super greatful for as I often travel with a handicap parent and often have to change plans when there's no ramp!
Gravel parkinglot.... your toes WILL gest dusty if your in flops lol
And the parking lot sucks. Which is hilarious now after we've been there a few times and left with tshirts that highlight the bad parking lot. You have to appreciate a place that has good humor! It's 100% worth the driving around a few times and moving parking spots so you can fit in so you can enjoy the food.
I guess this is mostly a night time thing but they have bottle shoots that they drop their beer bottles down into a guess a trash can and you can hear it smash. The first few times it was startling, so if you're sensitive to noises.... you will hear this a mile away.
There is a LOT of wall decor to look at so definitely make a visit in the day time so you can see all the little fun details - esp in the bar! Very cool stuff!
We went 5-6, sometimes for lunch and dinner while we were down there! 10/10 can't wait to come back in the spring and eat...
Read moreWell I wanted to send a private email to owners, but couldn't find a email, and the message board on site won't let you text everything I gotta say. So my husband and I rode our boat over to holden beach to eat here and we never made it inside. When we rode up there were two boats waiting, we sat and waited our turn, while we were waiting the person working the dock on Saturday 23rd at 2:30, said we could dock between some wooden poles. But unfortunately it was to shallow and we hit mud and could not go in any closer, the gentleman wanted us to throw him a rope so he could try and drag us in. We didn't feel comfortable with that. So I told my husband that the two boats had docked, so we would be next in line. so we waited then the guy working dock asked if we wanted to try other side, so we went over, when we saw it also was to shallow to get in, (mind you we have a trolling moter also on boat and was using that at time)and watch him try and drag a jet ski out of where he wanted us to park, that was being dragged on bottom. We decided we weren't doing that. So we said we would take next spot since people were getting in boat. he let us know he was giving that spot to a bigger boat. I said but we are next in line. He argued that he tried say he drag us in, and give us a spot in back of dock. I explained after watching him try and get the jet ski out we didn't feel comfortable with that. He informed us that was our options he would be docking bigger boats on dock first on that side. I said again but we been here longer, we been here like 20min. he was not budging ,so we left. I don't know if he thought he would get a bigger tip from a bigger boat or what. but it was very disappointing to patiently wait our turn to be treated like that. Thankfully our family that was inside left and we all went to captain Pete's, Which was so good. I don't know how good the service inside is or the food at the Holden Beach Provisions, we never made it in. but it looks like you only get docked where your boat not being dragged on the bottom and may or may not make to actual dock if you have a yacht. I'm hoping the owners have a talk with this guy, and hope this never happens to anyone else. It shouldnt matter how big your boat is, if your next in line to dock, then your boat should be next. Because we made a 45 min drive, and was excited to try , since we love Southport provisions. but I think we will steer clear of this place. maybe try again down road,...
