I will start with saying the food was exceptional, I had the filet minion with crab sauce and it was fantastic. Service was terrible, read on if you would like the narrative or feel free to move along now. We did go on New Year's Eve with a reservation and knowing that it was a holiday, I didn't expect lighting fast service. When we were seated the server asked if the checks would be separate or together; to which we replied we will be paying as couples (5 couples, more on this later). Drink orders took 15 min and getting said drinks took another 15, I was willing to be understanding as it was the holiday and I'm sure they were understaffed. The food order and tabling took 45 min, which again I'm happy to be patient with the above mentioned conditions. At this point we are 90+ minutes into our time and are ready to pay and leave. After having to flag down our server who had not stopped by the table in 20 minutes, we politely asked for our checks. We are told they will be brought shortly and....15 minutes later they arrive with credit cards out and jackets on which I thought is pretty clear body language that we are ready to pay and leave. After an additional 15 minutes and a few increasingly annoyed glares, a manager stops by the table to ask how everything is. We told them we would just like our cards back so we can leave which prompted a very sarcastic "Aren't you having fun?" At this point, patience had expired in the group and the manager was told that their condescension was not appreciated and again that we would just like our cards so we could leave. To which the news was delivered that their policy is to not split checks on New Year’s Eve and that’s why it had taken so long. At this point, we again repeated that we just wanted the checks so the manager threw them very aggressively on the table and stormed off. I wish this were the end of the story but, not all of the credit cards were in the now jumbled stack of checks so we still had to go flag down someone to help us. I would apologize for the chronicle but, it has been very cathartic to write all of this. If you would like to have a dining experience, which is seemingly what the prices on the menu suggest, I would recommend somewhere else. I’ve had better...
Read moreLet me start by saying the service we received at Kimi's was above and beyond. Whoever our server was she was phenomenal and so friendly. Their food? Not so much. For dinner we had some cocktails, a bottle of cab, their blue crab wraps, lingonberry meatballs, chanterelle mushroom soup, the filet mignon, and their pork chop. The cocktails were good, nothing to write home about. The blue crab wraps were probably the best thing of the night. Creamy, citrusy, and full of succulent sweet blue wrap with baby romaine cups. The filet was also flavorful and cooked almost perfect. Overall the price of cocktails and entrees was not bad thought I felt the tapas and appetizers were fairly overpriced. That unfortunately is where the good stuff stops. The lingonberry meatballs had a nice sauce but were bone dry. The chanterelle mushroom soup which people supposedly come in just for that? It had a nice touch with the cranberry to cut the creaminess but was one of the most oversalted soups I have ever tasted. Bread course was also not great. The pork chop was honestly the most offensive. It had an apple chutney that was nice but frankly not particularly inspired. Most disappointing was that it was massively overcooked and dry to the point of being inedible. I spent half of my dinner trying to saw into the pork chop and to confirm my suspicions there was not an ounce of moisture to be found when I bit in. Then naturally the meat near the bone was dangerously pink. Save for the lovely double bone in cut I could easily make a much better pork chop at home. If your kitchen doesn't have the experience to properly cook and finish off a bone in cut of meat I might suggest not putting it on your menu. The carrots that came with the dish were not seasoned. At all. And even for someone who likes veggies with a bite were so under-cooked. It also came with mashed potatoes that lacked a creamy sumptuous quality were also under seasoned. Even just dollop of salted butter would have done the potatoes wonders. All in all, not a great kitchen and not somewhere I would take friends, family, or clients. There are so many other chop houses in Salt Lake and Park City that far exceed the quality of food we saw...
Read moreMy fiance and I have been waiting to go to Kimi's for a while because people have RAVED over how spectacular it is, however, this was not our experience. I have several things to say. There were only two steaks on the menu, so can you really call yourself a chop house? In general the menu seemed mostly to focus on fish, there were some random items like mac n cheese. The service was simply average. I am usually a 20% minimum tipper, but I honestly felt conflicted. For the price of the entrees, I expected perfect service. I first sat at the lounge for way too long to get a drink followed by arriving to our table where there was an undertone between wait staff, that seem to say there was not enough help or people were not doing their jobs. Our candle wasn't lit, we had to ask for the specials twice, and I didn't have silverware. These are usually things I brush off when entrees are$15-$25, but if you are paying around $40 for a plate - c'mon! It really should be exceptional. The ambiance, although clearly stylistically pleasing in the lounge area, there is a strange front room that has not been considered with an office and weird coffee bar and the main dining needs something to make the space feel most intimate. The ceilings are very tall so it's loud because there is no noise dampening materials and the lighting needs work. The room is just very large and needs to be divided potentially with booths or drapes. The food, overall, was good, but there wasn't a single dish that stood out as being fantastic. The wine list and cocktails are probably the biggest winners in my opinion.
Overall, we are glad we went to see what people were talking about, but will not be returning... ever. There are at least three more restaurants in the SLC area I would rather spend my money: Tradition, Copper Onion, and Kyoto come to mind immediately. Hope this...
