Jack's Hollywood Diner.
I drive by this place at least 10 times a week. I just never have found the time to stop in and check it out.
The Diner has lots of parking in the back. The restaurant has a lot of tables.
The first mistake I made?
I should have gone sooner. I should not have waited so long. If you like diners, this place is a place you want to visit.
Second mistake I bet people make?
PEOPLE thinking it looks kind of boring. However, like any diner, it has its own kind of ambience and charm.
Third mistake, I thought they'd have a small menu. Jack's Hollywood Diner has a great menu with lots of varied options, for breakfast lunch and dinner.
I ordered a coffee, a triple-decker club sandwich with chicken salad and French fries. I also ordered a slice of pecan pie.
I like their coffee, it's strong. It's not weak like Duncan's or garbage like Starbucks.
The triple-decker chicken salad club sandwich was better than I had hoped. Putting chicken salad instead of slices of meat is a bold choice, but it works. I don't know what they are cooking the bacon with, but that bacon was insanely delicious. I wasn't finished being surprised because the coleslaw was actually one of the best coleslaws I've ever eaten.
I like french fries a lot, but these french fries were just average. I think I would have preferred them hotter, maybe that would have been better. I also would have preferred more fries, the plate was pretty small for the french fries. Minor detail.
Now I get to my favorite part... the dessert. The southern pecan pie was off the wall delicious. It was a veritable cornucopia of delicious tastes, making my taste buds explode.
Lulu, my delightful waitress throughout the whole adventure with funny kind and Charming.
Lulu is very good at what she does. She took good care of me giving me a small little sample of their apple pie. I have to tell you that the apple pie is really good. If you order the apple pie or the southern pecan pie you will not be disappointed.
I will definitely go back, hopefully Lulu will be my waitress again.
Good food good service and a lower price than what I expected.
PLUS... the Diner is open 24 Hrs.
That's what I call...
Read moreUpdating on December 21,2024...Food and service great! Odd day...they were in the middle of changing their computer [POS] system, so they were "cash only" and the waitresses, instead of their orders being given to the chefs printed through the computer, had to go "olde school" and submit everything in their handwriting...result...no cheese added to the eggs...no cheese put in the sausage, cheese and egg wrap. They fixed it but it was just what can happen when the computers are not available. We enjoyed breakfast and had a good laugh with our waitress. Always coming back here...
Updating on August 23, 2024 from review of early 2021. Jack's is as great and reliable as it has been under what is now the 3rd owner in about 4 or 5 years [i.e. Hot Commodity]. Today I had a simple burger with fries...their burger always tastes good (even without any ketchup) and their fries are good and crisp. My girlfriend had a breakfast wrap which she now has most of the time we eat there and even though the portion was rather big she finished it all bc it has such a good flavor. Our waitress had her hands full as there were about a dozen tables plus the counter for only 2 waitresses..she did fine. Prices here match the very good diner atmosphere and quality...$33.00 for a burger w/fries, a breakfast wrap, and 2 drinks, plus tax is a reasonable price in Hollywood (as nearby we would be paying just above $40.00 for the same type of meal...and always "wince" at the high price). Always coming back here and wish the new owner the best success! [2021Review...They reopened about a month ago (after being closed since March, 2020) and they were sorely missed. As more of the old-time regulars have been coming back there were fun discussions at the counter (sitting every other seat apart). We talked about some of the meals we were now having that we had missed....polish sausage with eggs, belgian waffles with fresh blueberries, bread pudding that was good as it had been last March. This is a community diner where the food is always very good, the customers tend to know each other, and the waitresses...
Read moreIt breaks my heart to write this, as my previous 2 reviews sang praises, but my family and I will no longer frequent Jack’s due to the service. It seems things have gone downhill in this department since switching owners. As a family, we’ve loved this establishment for at least 20 years, if not more.
On Sunday, at 7AM on 11/26, we were a party of 18. I do know it’s a lot for this specific restaurant, but we got there early so it wasn’t yet busy. All of us came in within 10 minutes of each other (first 6, then 5, then the last 6) and we’re ready to order by 715. We told the waitress getting our drink order we were going to need separate checks and she said to inform the waitress taking our order.
Once we were all together, the waitress comes over and says we cannot do separate checks and it will be one check. Separate checks have never been an issue in the past, so we were trying to explain this; just take the orders of the people on one check and move on (we needed it split 4 ways).
One waitress said very loudly and rudely, something along the lines of this is too much, you can deal with this mess. Not wishing to have our food tampered with as the staff was clearly unhappy, that sealed the deal, and we left after paying for our drinks.
Although I love the food here, they’ve lost my business due to their service and I’ve personally frequented this establishment since 2009. I also did try to reach out to them directly using the contact us email option on their website, but it’s gone unanswered for over a week...
