I love finding a good joint, meaning a hole in the wall with good food not one to smoke. ZANDERS at 1428 N Federal Highway Hollywood fits the bill. Itās in an old shack that changed hands a hundred times and unnoticeable. It has 4 stools at the counter to eat in if you like. Zander works his magic about 6 feet away grilling, prepping, cleaning and supplies are piled everywhere for lack of space. There are picnic tables outside if you wish to dine alFresco on Federal Highway š I had the Double Z Smash Burger, two hand formed angus beef Burgers smashed and cooked to perfection ( a little crunchy on the outside) cheese, tomato and Romain with a slice of Bermuda onion on a grilled bun. A slight film of the special sauce was on the roll. Sweet, tangy and a bit of heat. Served with a side of fries perfectly seasoned and tasted like he just peeled and cut the potatoes. To be honest, the single Z would have been fine. The single is $9.89 and the double was $15.59 Kids are $6.95 ( he has a kids menu) Zander urged me to try the corn. He cooks it fresh so a 15 minute wait allowed me to chat with patrons coming to pick up or sit outside. The ELOTE was boiled then charred directly on the gas burner then smothered in a creamy lime mayo, rolled in cotija cheese and sprinkled with tajin (lime, chili, pepper and salt) Zander himself is charming. A mixture of Greek and Arab he loves what he does. Itās definitely a place I will return to. Lots of fun items to choose from including breakfast. And the prices are great. Parking in the rear off...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat a great addition to an area in Hollywood that needs more eateries and business that won't leave you broke. This tiny location has seen a number of different incarnations including a hot dog place, fried chicken and most recently, an arepas joint. Most came and left without making an impact or lasting long. Now come Zander's and the vibe is different. For starters, the owners, a genuine mom and pop, hired a local artist to design a nice "Smash Burger" mural outside the shoebox location. That alone merits a visit. Ordered the smash burger that came with a side of fries all for $8.99. The owner, Elias, cooked it right in front of us and he was a delight to talk to. Super friendly and humble but proud of his chef skills. The burgers came out wonderful, a bit on the greasy side, but that's what you want in a nice smash burger. The seasoned fries were fresh and tasty. The location is very tiny, with mostly outside seating. The outdoor seating is mostly shady and breezy. Excellent place to visit on a beautiful Florida afternoon to have a quick, cheap and delicious lunch while supporting a true mom and...
Ā Ā Ā Read morestrange experiences. you can definitely tell its privatley owned in terms of customer service and professionalism. I've been here 3 times; first time was pretty good,I reccomend get the double burger since the single isnt TOO filling. The second time, they were just randomly closed. Theyvare closed on Mondays and it wasnt a Monday. This last time, I got the double burger, always good, but got hasseled for asking too many questions/not picking a drink. The enviornment is 'okay' for a small corner shop. The food is good, a bit greasy and pricey but good. Over all not THAT impressed and will look for something more reasonably priced, relatively healthier(not as greasy), and slightly better service. I like eating locally and rather feel good with my overall experience...
