Stationed with the U.S. military overseas, I was blessed with the opportunity to have eaten authentic pizza (pie) in Italy. That said, I have a biased opinion with many of the pizzerias here is the U.S.
Heard about Pic’s Pizza Pub in Holyoke by work of mouth and driving by there on my way to work, my partner and I decided to give them a shot. Luckily, we have dined-in a total of three times in the last 45-days.
THE GOOD: In addition to their wings (which are awesome), their pizzas are nothing short of phenomenal! A thin crispy crust (the kind that does not upset your stomach after eating one slice), excellent blend of mildly spiced marinara sauce (not too spicy or bland), and flavorful toppings (I enjoy their pepperoni). Cannot say how wonderful it was to find a pizzeria in the area with excellent food! I will note that on Thursdays, we are “serenaded” by their in-house 3-4 piece band. If you can withstand the ear piercing volume, it is well worth the free Thursday concert.
THE BAD: No dig on the server’s themselves, but their are too few of them. Pic’s is large in size. Each time we have dined-in, there was only two or three servers for the entire place. Again, the servers are great and courteous but be prepared to wait for them to take your order. On the other hand, although they are busy and absent at times, our food has come out fairy quick and hot. Suggest management hire additional staff or limit the number of guests (which we both know the latter will not happen).
THE UGLY: This place needs a top to bottom renovation badly. Ceiling is stained, exposed extinguisher pipes have electrical wires hanging from them, the floor, tables and chairs all have seen better days. Surprisingly, a renovation did not happen during the COVID-19 closure. If so, it was not significant.
Compared to the Godfather of pizzeria places in New Haven, CT, Pic’s pizza outranks them all. To avoid the wait, call-in your order or dine-in for a fresher piece of pie. Do not forget their Thursday musical...
Read moreI order a steak from here every month. The quality of the steak and the preparation are normally excellent. However, this last order took an extra half hour for it to be ready. I ordered to go and when I arrived home I discovered the steak was way overcooked. It was like eating leather. I am hoping this was a one time mistake. If not I will be placing my orders elsewhere. Other than this one time cooking error the food has been good. The takeout setup could use some improvements. You have to walk up to a very busy bar to let them know you have an order to pickup. These are all bar tenders who I know make their money on tips and certainly they make more tips on drinks than the occasional food order to go. So it usually takes some time for one of the bartenders to get to you. I don't put any blame on the bartenders, I feel management should probably pass the to go orders onto a...
Read moreLocals love this place and I can see why, it's got a lot of neighborhood bar charm. If you like bar food and pizza it's one of the best places around factoring quality and price; 49 cent wings on Monday are great and 5 dollar burgers on Wednesdays will keep me going back regularly. Full bar, reasonably priced and a solid enough beer selection for most drinkers. The expanded bar added more seats but it's still tight on the sides and a little noisy. There are several televisions with pretty good viewing angles for sports. The seating area is also a little small if the extra room isn't open which I think they use mostly for functions and maybe weekends. If you like the older bars with character, the dive bar vibe, and you're in the area, this is the place to go. There's some parking on the street out front and a lot in the back with a...
