This is a place that feels like a must-visit in this region. My visit was prompted by the appealing photos I saw online, and the experience lived up to the hype. A key convenience was the easy-to-find parking right out front, which is a significant plus in any busy area.
Location and Atmosphere
While many similar food businesses in this market lack dedicated dining areas, this location provided a welcome exception. The presence of normal tables outside, conveniently located near the ordering area, made it easy to enjoy the meal on-site. This thoughtful setup enhances the overall experience and provides a space for guests to relax and enjoy their food.
Service and Food Quality
The service was excellent. The cashiers were not only attentive but also genuinely kind, showing a clear concern for our experience and patiently answering all our questions. For my meal, I ordered a poke bowl with their special rice, which came with dry seaweed. I chose a combination of Ginger Ahi and Spicy Tuna, and the toppings included furikake, masago, tempura flakes, and green onions.
The quality of the ingredients was exceptional, especially when considering the $21 price for a generous portion. The products felt fresh, and the flavors were well-balanced.
My only small wish would be for a wider variety of pre-marinated tuna flavors to be available, as it seemed a few were sold out during my visit. This may be a reflection of their "pick rice, size, and tuna" ordering system, which focuses on a specific selection.
Overall Experience
For the price, the portion size was excellent and the quality was top-notch. It's a great spot that balances good food with a pleasant, accessible dining environment. The combination of easy parking, a comfortable outdoor seating area, and friendly service makes it a place I'd...
Read moreOff the hook poke is a hole in the wall spot with some of the best poke on the island! It is located in Manoa so a little farther away from all the main tourist area but if you are able to make the trip then I would highly recommend the poke platter to try a little bit of everything. There is obviously a line here, and you can see it starting to form about 30 minutes before they open.
Food I got the poke platter, which is a sampling of their 8 different poke they have. Perfect for a group of 2 and highly recommend getting a side of the rice with it cause it is saucy! The fish was all super fresh and delicious. Their signature is the ginger ahi which is ahi topped with a refreshing green ginger sauce. Their spicy ahi is also very good and I enjoyed their tako as well.
Atmosphere This place is a hole in the wall literally. You wait in line on the street, order at the window, pick it up at the window, and then go on your way. There is no seating anywhere around.
Pricing Poke prices here are average, or maybe slightly more compared to other poke places on the island. The quality of fish and flavors is worth it though.
Service The workers are very nice and food came out fast.
Other Take out only! There is no seating inside, or really anywhere around. I just parked at the Safeway across the street and walked over. There is a line that can get pretty ridiculous during peak hours. Also the weather in Manoa can fluctuate vastly compared to the rest of the island so I would bring...
Read moreNot sure why there's such a huge hype here.. a 4.8 rating in September-22. I found this place with Google's recommendation and the experience was a total disaster. If you’re going based on the google rating, I advise not!
I didn't enjoy any of the food here. Staff recommended the cold ginger ahi and the spicy ahi. The cold ginger ahi was the worst flavor I had on the poke in Hawaii, it was too gingery, and I am not sure anyone would enjoy the green sauce. Who likes deep deep ginger flavor anyway? The spicy ahi flavor was definitely better, but if you think about it, the spicy ahi flavor is also a strong kind, and most poke places do this flavor well because you just need to make a strong flavor. Foodland’s or Donquijote’s spicy ahi flavor is as good as theirs and they sell it at a lot cheaper than this poke market.
Both flavors were too strong, especially the ginger one, that I thought they even could’ve used bad quality fish because any fish smell will be hidden by the ginger smell.
This is a take-out poke shop so you need to eat food in your car or bring it to your hotel. As soon as you take out poke and let it sit in your car for a bit, it will be even worse. We ate in the parking lot and it was still not tasty.
Their pricing isn’t cheap either, two large bowls and half-pound poke were over $50 before the tip. I’d stay away from this shop...
