Was surfing pig, now called kono's restaurant. Interesting fact, if you get a tattoo of the surfing pig (see rules at the restaurant) and get 25% off for life. 🤯...see photo.
Also note, konos has been open for about one month now. If you pass by, you might get a 10% coupon and try a sample of one of their menu items.
I tried the fully loaded smash burger for $24. At first, I thought the cost was just the burger, but it includes fries too. Honestly, don't get it for lunch on a work day, you won't survive the rest of the work day. Lol It was delicious, huge, savory, juicy, hearty...lol but I don't believe its a true smash burger. Regardless the burger and fries is good and recommend everyone to try once. I need to go back and try the burrito bombers and the plate lunches. My coworker also got the milkshake, took him 2 minutes to finish it. Lol he said the oreo cheese cake was delicious.
Service is simple. You order first and sit down. Depending where you sit (upstairs or ground floor level) they have napkins and hot sauce on the table. No comment on the staff.
Atmosphere appears to be the same as the surfing pig. No change to the restaurant interior. We sat upstairs on the comfortable cushioned seats.
Cost is slightly higher, wish they would have lunch specials where size and cost was more reasonable. All-in-all I like what I ate and would go...

Not being able to eat wheat, I ordered the Kalua pork nachos. It was enough for 3 good meals for me, and 2 for most people. I'm in my 70s and have lived all over including Albuquerque New Mexico, and these were absolutely the best nachos I've ever had. I think it was the slow cooked pulled pork with the guava BBQ sauce that made them so ono! If you like Mexican, I highly recommend them. Then a friend from St Louis Heights called and said she was going to pick me up, bring me to her house until we got the all clear and bring me back to Waikiki. But I had a mobility scooter and it doesn't fit in a car. So the bartender/waitress said I could leave it there, and pick it up in the morning, and the manager agreed 💗That was so...
Read moreCame here on a weekday for lunch. We ordered 2 pints on tap and shared a salad (Pig in the grass) and smash burger. Food is very tasty and fresh. The fries that initially accompanied the burger were xxtra salty. We decided to speak up and were pleasantly surprised when they offered to send us a new batch. Made me a loyalist. We have been to Kono’s in Kailua a few times in the past. The servers were friendly and patiently explained the order process and waited for us to decide. We’ll be...
