My husband and I really liked our food for the most part. We personally didn't care for the free appetizer very heavy on the cummin. We ate on it because we we were hungry but I'm already getting cummin burps as it was a bit much. My husband ordered the butter masala which was good. I ordered i forget what it was called but it had like honey garlic shrimp and we liked that even better except I ordered it in mild and it was definitely not mild it was really spicy.I can't have too much of spicy food(gives me a bad throat pain) and that's why i got mild, so i was a bit disappointed with that being so spicy i couldn't finish it and my husband ate the rest. So I think they need to work on the spice levels because people that get mild can't handle a lot of spice that's why why they ask dor the lowest. Though my husband's butter masala was mild it wasn't too overly spicy. I would personamly try ordering what I had again without spice though because the flavor was so good hopefully wont be too sweet without spice. The staff were really nice though and the atmosphere is good. Another thing in our opinions the prices are slightly a bit high(not ridiculously high but compared to some other restaurants in the gorge including Indian food) I don't personally have a big appetite but I would have liked rice with my dish without paying extra because I don't want just prawns. My husband's dish came with rice and luckily he shared with me. Someone with a bigger appetite than me would not have been satisfied with just prawns they would probably have to order extra for a filler. Over all we would come here again, and do recommend this place. The biggest con for us is the sessonings/spices I think can be a bit overwhelming depending what you get for some people.
Edit:Came here again and my husband and we tried the chicken Tikka Masala and it was good too!
You gotta try the Mango Lassi drink they have it's delicious! 😊
And I want to say the staff are all very sweet we will definitely be coming back more as the foods good and...
Read moreTL;DR: Delicious, authentic Indian food with generous portions, friendly and attentive staff, and pricing that reflects the quality and care put into each dish. An awesome new addition to Hood River food options.
We’ve been looking forward to this spot opening ever since it was announced, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. They were upfront about wait times (which we expected—it was opening weekend after all), and kept checking in with us throughout our visit.
And honestly, we want our food to take a little time if it means it’s freshly prepared. Every dish felt handcrafted with intention. You could tell the chef really cared—he even came out to say hello and make sure we were enjoying everything. That kind of personal touch is rare and appreciated.
The portion sizes were impressive. We shared several dishes between four people and everyone had plenty to try. The Masala Dosa was especially memorable—huge and flavorful.
As for price, it was more than fair given the quality and the fact that this is authentic Indian food made from scratch. It’s not fast food, and it’s not something you can easily make at home. When you compare it to the other options in Hood River or White Salmon—where a $25 burger is all too common—this place brings something genuinely different and refreshing to the table.
Please don’t let the random 1-star reviews fool you. Many seem to come from folks who make a habit of leaving negative reviews everywhere. New restaurants deserve a little grace in their opening days, especially when they’re offering something as special as this.
We’re lucky to have more diverse food options popping up in the Gorge, and this one is absolutely worth supporting. Highly recommend...
Read moreHere comes a very simple review. Hindustani's food is absolutely wonderful. Indian(big variety North to South)is my favorite cuisine, with much experience chasing down the best South Asian restaurants anyplace I've lived, as well as being able to make a mean biryani myself. Hillsboro (80 miles) is my next favorite place to eat Indian, but with the Amaya's food options here in the Gorge, we sure are saving lots of gas money. Looking forward to tasting every dish/chat/bread that comes out of their kitchen. As to pricing, personally I reel from sticker shock pretty much everywhere these days, a sign of the times I guess, BUT so far every meal we ordered is a serving size that is actually 2 or even 3 meals. Indian leftovers to go are one of my favorite things about a good restaurant. Plan accordingly, for 2 sporty, hungry people 1 entree and 1 chat(onion panorama would be my favorite) and 1 Naan is plenty of food. So very happy to have this brick and mortar establishment in our...
