From start to finish, our stay at Thistle Down on Oak in Hood River was pure perfection. It began with the amazing woman who called me back after my original reservation, she was warm, thorough, and made sure every detail was explained, from how to get into the building to what to expect upon arrival.
The building itself is a beautifully restored 1910-era bank, now transformed into offices and this stunning boutique hotel. We stayed in Griffin’s Loft, and the moment we opened the door, we were greeted by a rich royal purple color palette, upscale wood trim, and elegant Victorian inspired finishes. Every detail felt thoughtfully designed down to the beautiful stemware, the very nice coffee maker, and a refrigerator fully stocked with waters, sodas, sparkling water, and other drinks. There were even board games set out if we wanted to stay in for a cozy night.
The fireplace added an extra touch of warmth and charm, the remote controlled skylight was a fun surprise, and the televisions looked like framed artwork until they came to life with the remote.
Parking was simple, with a pass provided in the room so we could remain parked right out front for longer. Being on the main road meant we could simply step out the door and walk straight into the heart of downtown, with everything happening on a lively Friday night just steps away. We were also able to check in early, which was a much appreciated bonus.
The bed was luxuriously comfortable, with linens that felt like sleeping on a cloud. The bathroom was equally impressive, with upscale finishes that made it feel spa like. We only stayed one night, but I could have easily stayed a week (or longer!). We left early the next morning for a rail bike excursion, which was another amazing experience but leaving this hotel so soon was bittersweet.
Thistle Down on Oak is truly a hidden gem where historic charm meets modern luxury and I cannot recommend it...
Read moreMy wife and I made a last minute journey to Hood River to celebrate a family birthday and not wanting to make a late night drive through the Gorge home, we decided to stay over for the evening. We were lucky to discover Thistledown on Oak Street, we were even luckier they had availability as this Boutique hotel is truly something special. Each room is unique and we were directed to Griffin’s Loft, One of the 3 rooms currently available in this one of a kind hotel.|| As we walked in we were amazed by its unique blend of beautiful antiques, bold colors and warm homie feel. But cleverly integrated are all the modern touches you expect with at a high end luxury hotel. Like wifi, fridge, coffee maker, wine glasses and treats, but when you ad in the picture frame big screen televisions that are seamlessly integrated into the decor, or the fireplace with leather sofa with blankets and power curtains?? This place is special. And the bed…. Adjustable comfort you just don’t find in any hotels, one of the most comfortable I have experienced. ||Though the building is built is 100 plus years old, Thistledown on oak is relatively new we were told that the current 3 rooms will be expanded in the near future and we can’t wait to see what those look like, and once this place is discovered they will need the extra availability. I can imagine seeing this place on the Conde’ Nast’s lists of must-visit hotels soon, As this place is over the top magnificent! And the bonus is its just minutes off I-84 in the heart of downtown Hood River....
Read moreYou would never imagine that right in the middle of downtown Hood River is this luxurious hotel that transports you to another world. You can't help but be amazed as you take in all of the unique decor, from the knight's armor in the hall to the life size lion in the dining room. There are so many thoughtful touches to add to your pleasure as you move from room to room. The kitchen refrigerator is filled with a variety of beverages and the drawers and cabinets are furnished with everything you could need to prepare a meal for friends. They thought of anything you may have forgotten in your toiletries bag and supply you with lovely smelling bath gels. We enjoyed lounging in the spacious living room and would have enjoyed one of the plentiful games they had availble, if we had had the time. We got a good night's rest in the comfortable beds with the plush comforter and pillows. I loved waking up in the morning and walking right across the courtyard to enjoy a cup of coffee at Doppio's. We went out one evening to have a drink at a local restaurant and decided to leave early, because we actually missed the atmosphere of the penthouse. We would love to return to Thistledown, since we feel like we didn't have the time to really take advantage of all that it had to offer. Thank you to all those who made our stay...
