I ordered via door dash on Sunday 8/24/25 @ approximately 12:24 PM/CST ( Center cut sirloin 10oz/MW, loaded potato salad & mashed potato) Once the food arrived...I must admit it left a lot to be desired. The steak was cooked MR ( at best ) I immediately contacted the unit and spoke to Ryan Riley. Ryan, was both apologetic and hospitable. He, offered to remake the meal and took down all pertinent information. ie.. my name, order number, correct food order, receipt number and phone number. He shared with me that he would note/log all info so that I could come at any time and have the order replaced. ( NO REFUND WAS PROVIDED nor REQUESTED) On today 9/16/25 at approximately 1:49 PM/CST...I called the unit and requested to speak to a manager, the young lady on the other end identified herself as Courtney. Courtney and I spoke very briefly... Once done explaining to her the situation she immediately responded with: Ryan Riley, doesn't work at said location any longer ( she shared that he was a manager at the 280 location) she also abruptly told me that '' it was to long for her and she wouldn't be replacing the order, she also did not look for the notation as I requested while responding aggressively by saying....''THERE ARE NO NOTES''. In order to avoid any further conflict I asked for the General Manager's name ( which was provided/ Carmen) and provided my name and number per her (Courtney's request) At this point in the interaction Courtney, stated that she would look into it and call me back.
Courtney, did hold true to her word... roughly 30-40 min later she did return a call and left a general voicemail. (NO ACCOUNTABILITY...NO APOLOGETIC TONE/WORDS.... NO RREMEDY...)
I am concerned with her (Courtney) lack of professionalism when refusing to simply place me on hold and ATTEMPT to locate the notes regarding the initial visit. Also, she spoke AT me versus TO me. She (Courtney) did not seem to care about guest retention nor providing an empathetic vibe. It almost seemed as if she could care less about the impression that guest leave with. Her response regarding ''it's too long for her and she wasn't going to replace the meal'' is most problematic for me because there should be a policy in place and NOT a personal choice. THIS IS BUSINESS...
I, chose to call the unit directly instead dealing with door dash because as a former Hospitality Pro it was my attempt to not publicize nor hinder other guest/s decision about possibly dinning at the location. BECAUSE REVIEWS MATTER... THIS IS BUSINESS...
It is my hopes that upper management at the Hoover location (5250 Peridot Pl) find this experience both bothersome and unacceptable. If this is the example of leadership. integrity, guest service and communication. YOUR TEAM HAS...
Read moreUpdate: (May 2025). Minutes after ordering our server told us that they were out of pork chops. Do I ordered ribs with loaded mashed potatoes and a salad. My wife ordered chicken tenders and sweet potato fries and a salad.
Drinks were good and most of the food was. But my mashed potatoes were not. They had a sour note to them. I can't stand sour cream or ranch. My wife loves it. But even she said there was something off about them. I've had them here many times and they never tasted bad like this. The manager said he was going to go taste them but he never returned with his verdict. I believe something in their fridge was going bad. He offered to replace it with something else but I just wanted him to get the feedback and investigate.
Our server, Sydney, was awesome. She too offered a replacement but I told her the same thing about feedback. Something in that kitchen has changed.
Overall we had a good experience. I just hope next time all of the food is good.
I didn't take photos this time because I didn't get what I initially ordered. If they have pork chops next time I'll try to remember to take photos.
(2023). We just moved to Alabama from Phoenix and have been busy settling into our home. Finally got some time to go out for a meal. We arrived at Big Whiskey and had a pleasant welcome. We were seated quickly, Our server (Lisa) was extremely helpful with recommendations for drinks, appetizers, and our dinner as well. She was well versed with the menu and was able to tell us what she would recommend after we told her about some of our likes and dislikes with food. She kept our water topped off and was quick to grab our second drinks we ordered from the bar. Our food came out perfectly. I would go back for the food but the main reason we will return is because of Lisa. She's a fantastic server and these days that is hard to find. She could be someone I would want to train other servers. She's got a great personality and she...

Tonight, we hit up Big Whiskey’s in Hoover, and let’s just say—this place delivers on bold flavors, killer drinks, and a vibe that blends Southern charm with a lively New Orleans edge. From the moment we walked in, we were surrounded by rich oak barrels, colorful beads draped around the space, and an atmosphere that made you want to kick back and stay awhile.
🥨 Starters That Hit the Spot: We kicked things off with fried pickles—thin, crispy, golden strips of tangy goodness, fried to perfection. The crunch? Unreal. We also grabbed a warm, soft pretzel paired with creamy, velvety beer cheese—the kind of rich, savory dip that makes you want to lick the bowl clean.
🍔🍝 Main Event – Flavor Explosion: 🔥 The Honey Burger – A masterpiece of sweet heat! Juicy, flame-grilled beef topped with spicy honey sauce, smooth cream cheese, and crispy fried jalapeños—every bite was an addicting mix of sweet, creamy, and crunchy with just the right amount of kick.
🍗 Penne Pasta with Chicken – Grim went for the pasta, and it did not disappoint. Tender, grilled chicken over perfectly cooked penne, tossed in a flavorful, creamy sauce with diced tomatoes for that fresh burst of flavor. Comfort food with a touch of elegance.
🍗🍟 Chicken Fingers & Fries – Carrie kept it classic, and Big Whiskey’s delivered. Crispy, golden-fried tenders with that perfect crunch, served alongside seasoned fries that were hot, crispy, and impossible to stop eating.
🍹 Drinks That Pack a Punch: Of course, we had to sample the cocktails—and they were amazing. Perfectly balanced, strong but smooth, and crafted with just the right amount of flair. They even serve massive fishbowl drinks for those looking to sip on something shareable and wild.
If you’re in Hoover and looking for big flavors, strong drinks, and a killer atmosphere with an American-meets-New-Orleans feel, Big Whiskey’s is absolutely worth the visit. Highly...
