Well...I brought my 95-years-old father to lunch at Edgar's on Hwy 119, following a doctor visit. And as luck would have it, as my father entered through the front door, he caught his foot on an upturned portion of a rug (black rug with upturned corner on top of black tile...) and went down to the floor. He broke a nail, bruised his elbows, and most seriously, badly cut his right knee. We got him to his feet and brought him to a chair, and -- because of the blood thinners he takes -- was bleeding like a butcher shop as the staff scrambled for first aid. He bled through napkins and band-aids, and when it became clear that the bleeding wasn't stopping, the paramedics were summoned. Once the pros were on the scene, they applied a pressure bandage to stop the carnage, and all seemed well. We ordered lunch and had a seat. The staff was wonderful throughout -- they couldn't have been more helpful. They took an incident report, but they did all they could to attend to Dad. Strangely enough, they did charge me FULL PRICE for our food. You know, it seemed to me that the concern would logically have been whether we'd go to an attorney about Dad's fall and injury, and that to avoid same, they'd do everything they could do to appease us. Nope. $18.34 and a visit by the paramedics was...
Read moreI can’t say enough about this bakery! The cakes, pastries and cookies are wonderful. We got the cakes for my daughters wedding here. I was pleasantly surprised at the prices, too! Weddings are expensive enough, so that’s saying a lot. If you like strawberry, you need to try the strawberry cake. I stop here often to pick up cakes for special occasions, or for cookies “just because.” As bakeries go, their prices are in line. It’s going to be more than Publix bakery, but you’re getting a more gourmet item. They make food too! I’ve picked up breakfast on my way to work sometimes. I love the monte cristo, but it’s a lot of food! If you are picking up for breakfast, or multiple pastries for the office, I suggest ordering ahead. You can call, or use the website. I’ve had issues with the website, though. I’ve only had to deal with 1 grumpy person on staff, but that was the exception. Generally very nice, and patient (have you ever watched a 9 year old try and pick a treat out of...
Read moreI've been to several locations and it's all the same, disappointing. I don't think they use real peanut butter in their cookies but a peanut butter flavoring. When you bite into the cookie the flavor is almost nonexistent. The petit fours are suppose to be almond extract and they use vanilla, and very little at that. The sponge is dry and it taste like a pure sugar ball, just awful. The cheese straws were rancid and tasted like shortening instead of butter. The staff were nice but I don't buy bakery goods on that, you go for the food. Growing up in B'Ham my go to was Savage's Bakery in Homewood and Browdy's in Mt Brook. Just outstanding in every way and consistent in quality. Sadly since the Savage's retired and sold the business to the employee's they cut every corner possible and it's maybe 4 out of 10 and just so average. Sorry for the bad review but it might save someone from wasting their money on flavorless bakery goods. Between the both stores I...
