Star Wok — Restaurant in Hopkins

I have never felt so strongly about a place that I have posted a review, but the way I was treated upon trying to place an order this evening is absolutely unacceptable. I would leave 0 stars if I could. I called in about 6:15pm today, and was asked to hold. No problem, things are busy and I understand that with these uncertain times. I should have taken what happened next as a hint this wasn't going to be a smooth transaction. The "hold" system they have in place is to place the phone face down on the counter while you hear constant hollering in the background. 8 Minutes later I was able to speak with someone which I understand the wait, but the way the person acted that I spoke with was unacceptable. Was asked for my name, and then asked what I wanted to order. As I said what I wanted to order the lady on the phone yelled at me "NO, YOUR ADDRESS GIVE ME YOUR ADDRESS". I said oh i'm sorry, I thought you wanted my order first no problem. I began to tell her the address and no matter how I said it I kept being told "NOT RIGHT, WHAT IS THE BUILDING NUMBER. YOUR ADDRESS." I calmly said that this is not an apartment, there is no building number and please enter the address as I say there shouldn't be an issue. After arguing about the address for five minutes and how rudely I was being treated I told the person this is ridiculous and I will be taking my business elsewhere. I decided this isn't a place I want to give my business to. Now I realize that the reviews are very good on this place so I was hoping for a different experience. I have NEVER experienced something like this before and I don't appreciate being yelled at when I am going out of my way to try and support local businesses within my community. I was friendly up until the end when I said I was going elsewhere, but I was not treated in the same way. When I arrived to order, the cashier was sitting at a table out front, using her laptop. I was greeted, but then not even asked whether it would be for here or to go. (It was ultimately bagged up and stapled shut.)

When I asked what types of egg foo young they had she pointed to the top menu on the stack. I asked her to list them off for me, which she ultimately did.

I asked If they had fried rice to which I was told that they did but that it would be an upgraded price. I agreed and stipulated that I did not want any white rice at all.

At least that part of the order was right. Well not really.

The fried rice was just browned rice. No vegetables or other add-ins. I found that odd and in spite of getting 2 small boxes, I only had a few spoonfuls.

The shrimp egg foo young is amazing and I really enjoyed the seafood recipe off the chef's special section of the menu.

It was a balmy 38°s and I had broken out the shorts for the afternoon, but something about the kitchen hood caused such a tremendous draft every time the door opened that the napkins blew up and off the table.

Oh, and when I asked for utensils to eat in, and had to go back twice just to get a knife. My third trip was for two plates, and some napkins. I had to ask for more, and it's a good thing I did, considering that nasty draft.

UPDATE(02/14/22) - I had originally given 3 stars and a none recommendation. That was 3 years ago, and yesterday I went back again for the second time in 2 weeks. As I complained when things were not right, I should take the time to praise the improvements. Things are much different now. Every dish I ordered recently have exceeded my expectations. It was fresh, flavorful and good portion size. Gentlemen were rather polite. I had told them I'd be there around 3PM and I was running a bit behind. They even called me to make sure it was not a delivery. I thought it was very nice. I had no concerns about my food and when I tried it, I was right. It was absolutely delicious. Eggplant dish was beyond my taste buds. My mom, who never likes takeout food, tried and complimented the dishes. So what more can I say. I highly recommend these guys. They are as good as any Chinese place if not better. I am glad I went there again. Now I have found my neighborhood Takeout...
