Mess Hall Arts — Attraction in Hopkins

I booked a YOLO party at Mess Hall for my mom's 60th birthday. It was probably one of the most memorable experiences we've had as a family! Booking was super easy over the phone and through texting. We were able to tailor all parts of the experience for our family and the ages of the people in our group including the art activities, the party games and even the music. The Mess Hall space is warm and inviting and really gets your creative juices flowing. We were provided with colorful ponchos and shoe covers to protect our clothes, although I would still recommend wearing clothes and shoes that you are okay getting a little paint on, so you can focus on being creative and having fun! For those worried it will be too messy, we were still able to go out for a casual dinner afterwards without having to change clothes. Joey was our host and instructor for the session and he was so inviting and easy going, we immediately felt at ease. Some of us were a bit unsure about painting and being creative, but Joey was super encouraging and we all felt free to explore without expectation. He explained all the different types of techniques we could try to create our own canvas paintings and then let us loose on the large supply of paints and tools available in the studio. With some great music playing, we were able to create some really fantastic pieces of art and had a blast doing it! Joey also prepared some custom colors for a group canvas that we all contributed to, which will be a great reminder of our time together in the years to come. We played some great party games as well including Messy Musical Chairs, Paint the Birthday Girl, and Cheesehead. All made for a really fun time and great pictures. At the end of our session, Joey packaged up all our paintings in cardboard canvas boxes for clean and easy transport home. I would highly recommend Mess Hall if you are looking for a memorable, creative group activity for your next party or get-together. I contacted Mess Hall after my daughter was invited to a Birthday Party there and immediately knew she wanted to take some of her other friends there to celebrate her Birthday as well. We chose not to do a party package because we only had 5 girls going but after talking to Amanda, the owner, and trying to arrange a time for even five girls to get together over the summer with all sorts of crazy schedules, she ended up opening another public event just for us. What?!? That was so not expected, but so awesome that she would be willing to do that - especially at the last minute. When we arrived, we were greeted by Teri and Kai as they showed us the studio and got the girls started. They made the whole experience so much fun. They let the girls choose the music and totally adapted to the girls’ interests and personalities. They introduced them to different painting techniques and were very patient with them as they had LOTS of fun flinging paint onto their canvases. :) The girls had a blast. On the ride home, they all agreed that this was the best Birthday Party they had been to. And that says a lot for a group of girls ages 10-13! Seriously, just some loud music to sing and dance to, the ability to act crazy and create fun art by blacklight is all it took. If you're waiting to book, JUST DO IT! We just held an 8 year old bday party there today, and it was worth every penny! The kids were electric with excitement, and while I was nervous about the YOLO package not being enough time, they had it run so well it was like clockwork! SO MANY activities to keep them busy the whole time but not feel rushed. We even did the decorate cupcakes activity and the kids loved it! I was thoroughly impressed! They even wrote a list of presents and givers to send thank yous! So, as Mom, I didn't have to, I could just enjoy. They really have all this down to a science - I cannot recommend it enough- kids and their adults were all thoroughly impressed! One kid said it was their favorite party ever! The staff are so sweet and even helped us out to the car in the free parking lot out back. One thing I forgot is you pay in advance but I forgot cash for gratuity - I asked if there was another way and they were able to use a card - reminder to tip their amazingness!! My other child asked if tomorrow is his party... so now this is a thing for our family. We will definitely be back for other paint activities they host!
