0 stars I was in there today (05/05/22) to order food for some co-workers. I get there and there was only one other person in there at the time. It seemed to be a nurse. She ordered her food and I was up to order. She comes back and ask to skip ahead since she was order for co-workers and was in a hurry. I oblige. Once she's done, i go up to order and pay. I tried using my phone to tap to pay and they didn't accept that method. So, i go to leave and as I do, the woman offers to pay for the meal. I thank her and the order is paid for. As her order is made at least 5 other people go in order and get their food before us. Once they're taken care, I see the woman that paid for my order get her food. After some time, the man at the register comes over to tell me that they gave her our order. I tell him that it's okay and that I'll wait for them to make our food again. He refused and then started to verbally attack me. Calling me names and saying that I should have brought cash. Words are exchanged and as I go to leave, I have a drink in hand that was paid for by the woman. He tried to snatch from my hands and I exclaim that it has been paid for and he backs off. This man at a point outside throws his gloves off and tries to fight me.
TLDR; Man at counter makes a mistake and doesn't take responsibility. Verbally assaults me and then tried to physically fight me. I've heard a lot of bad things of this place. No respect for...
Read moreMom and Pop. In this day and age of the corporate chains, escalating costs for restaurant space leasing, parking, etc. we pay more attention and respect to those independent operators who make a go of running a little food venue. Usually done with a lot of passion and commitment to quality.
It has been awhile since I have chanced across a real mom and pop operation. But today, as I was making a circuitous route from my mom's house to a Bank of America to League City, I saw a sign for Tacos My Way in this little strip center. This one in Clear Lake just off of Bay Area Boulevard.
The taco theme is to order your tacos, then head over to the condiments bar where there are choices of salsas, etc and make it your own. The same concept one finds in the Rio Grande Valley with such places as Palenque or Taco Tote. In the case of Tacos My Way, the husband and wife and their five daughters were eating at a place in Phoenix when the idea for the taqueria came to them.
Now they have other items on the menu. Me? I look forward to checking them out the next time I am out that way for the chilaquiles or molletes. See photos for more information. This would be a great place to tweet a group of friends with a "Hey, I will be here at xxx. Come join me and let's share some tacos together". A way to bring the socializing back into...
Read moreI don’t have Mexican food much outside of Houston. I have my go-to spots. I took a chance on this because I drive by it often and it has good reviews.
My interactions with staff were great— they were super nice and helpful. They recommended a few items when I told them I had never been there before.
The burrito was pretty good. There’s a lot of opinions on types of Mexican food so I’ll put it like this:
The portions are huge, it’s cheap, and it hits the spot for breakfast food that’s somewhere between reliable early AM taco spots around the city and Tex-Mex. This is yellow cheese breakfast, ok? If you’re ok with that, or at least know what you’re in for, this is the spot.
IMPORTANT: It’s not salty! You will not need a gallon of water after eating—this is huge if you try a lot of spots like this, you know what I’m talking about.
It’s not Tex-Mex, but it’s got a little bit of that going on. This is Texas! You can get Birria if you want, but if you’re not super familiar with the other items, you’ll find easy breakfast items you don’t have to think about. They walk the line pretty well, whether you’re Mexican or not.
Comfort food for anybody who’s ever eaten a flour tortilla, basically....
