Truthfully after coming here I left unimpressed. I was really excited to try this place for dining. I had been once before to sit on the patio for a cocktail and that was a pleasant experience. However, my dining experience left a lot to be desired. For starters, I thought the food was just okay. The appetizers (ceviche and bibb lettuce) were pretty good. The oysters were good and priced fairly. My first real complaint comes with the lobster roll. I thought the lobster roll was fairly bland until my last few bites, which were pretty fishy and unpleasant. It also comes with a large side of shoestring fries, which were room temp at best. They were also supposed to be rosemary but they lacked flavor. This was on top of the fact that I have a personal dislike for shoestring fries as I find them difficult to eat. For a $40 plate, I had much higher expectations. The shining star of the food were the desserts. The salted butterscotch pot de crème was outstanding and the key lime pie was very very good! Next, the meal service/pace was mediocre. Our server (I think Emma was the name) was actually very pleasant and high-energy. We really enjoyed her. However, it took right around 2.25 hours for us to have our 3-course meal, which made us late for our evening activities. After ordering, we waited about 20 minutes for appetizers to arrive, then about another 20-30 for mains, and about another 20 for desserts. I wish I could say it was because they were slammed, but we had an early evening reservation and the restaurant was only about half full when we arrived. As for the atmosphere, the patio is quite nice on a pretty day. We sat outside on a hot day and they had the screen down to block the sun, which worked decently well. However, they have misting fans on the porch that are ineffective. We sat against the wall of the restaurant so the fans overhead, aiming forward rather than down, blew the air and mist over top of us instead of onto us. And yet, the table and chairs that the mist was hitting were soaking wet, so maybe it was for the better anyway. True, it was on us for making a patio reservation in the summer, but I expected more from their climate control. Overall, the experience was satisfactory for a dinner double date, but I’m not likely going back. We had a much better experience at Little’s down the road, so we’ll probably head there next time we...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Clark's Houston and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and a cozy atmosphere that immediately set the tone for the evening.
To begin our culinary journey, we opted for the East Coast oysters and Siberian sturgeon caviar. The oysters were simply divine, boasting a light and briny flavor that left us craving for more. And let's not forget about the caviar - a true delicacy that never disappoints. It added an extra touch of elegance to our lunch and left our taste buds dancing with joy.
Next up, we indulged in the clams and mussels. The dish was a true seafood lover's dream, with an abundance of clams immersed in a wonderful brine. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the accompanying grilled sourdough bread was a delightful addition. It was a combination that left us absolutely satisfied and yearning for another visit.
For the main course, my spouse opted for the lobster roll with a side of fries. Let me tell you, it was pure bliss. The lobster was served warm and the meat was incredibly tender. The accompanying dipping sauce added an extra layer of flavor that elevated the dish to new heights. The side of fries was the perfect complement, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Throughout our dining experience, the service was impeccable. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about their craft. They made us feel welcome and ensured that every aspect of our visit was met with the utmost care and attention.
The atmosphere at Clark's Houston is truly something to behold. The cozy ambiance, coupled with tasteful decor, creates a welcoming and stylish environment that is perfect for any occasion. Whether you're celebrating a special milestone or simply enjoying a casual lunch, this restaurant provides the ideal setting.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend Clark's Houston enough. The exquisite seafood, attentive service, and inviting atmosphere make it a five-star establishment in my book. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience that will leave you craving for more, look no further. Clark's Houston is the...
Read moreMixed Feelings About Our Visit to Clark's Oyster Bar My wife and I recently visited Clark's Oyster Bar in Houston, hoping for an enjoyable dinner, but our experience left us with some significant reservations, despite decent food and service from our waiter. Upon arrival, we were initially told there were no reservations or indoor seats available, and were directed to sit outside. Given that the temperature was well over 100 degrees, outdoor seating was simply not an option we were comfortable with. It was frustrating to be told this, only for the hostess to then "find" an indoor table, albeit with the caveat that we had to vacate it by a specific time. This immediately put a damper on our evening, forcing us to constantly eye the clock and rush our meal, detracting from what should have been a relaxing dining experience. Adding to our discomfort was the feeling of being intentionally seated away from other diners, in the back of the restaurant, despite other tables being available. As an African-American couple, this placement felt isolating and raised questions about the establishment's seating practices. On the positive side, our waiter was attentive and provided good service throughout our expedited meal. The food itself was actually quite good, which made the overall experience even more perplexing. It's truly a shame that the initial seating ordeal and the feeling of being rushed overshadowed the quality of the cuisine and our waiter's efforts. While the food was commendable, the perplexing and unwelcoming seating arrangements, coupled with the pressure of a time limit, made for a less-than-ideal visit. We hope that Clark's Oyster Bar will review their guest management and seating policies to ensure a more welcoming and equitable experience for...
