The gallery displayed detailed artwork that required a close view to fully appreciate the intricate shading and depth. While observing without touching, a staff member suddenly shouted at me to step back, yet ignored a white man viewing the piece from the same distance. He has no authority to dictate how much distance visitors should have to the artwork, as it’s the gallery's responsibility to establish a viewing guideline if needed, by such as setting up proper barriers or floor markers around pieces that require a specific viewing distance. Other galleries on the same premises and other museums/galleries in general have implemented these measures, which he must not know.
As other people commented on the rude staffs at the gallery, they should be trained and need to be educated already, to provide a fair treatment to all visitors instead of applying arbitrary, biased enforcement depending on their genders and/or race. This experience turned what should have been a welcoming and inclusive space for art into an...
Read moreDon't shout to kids. Be kind. We visited yesterday, and had a very disappointing experience. As my 6-year-old son approached the exhibition-(1st floor), though not too closely, a staff member (an old woman) raised her voice, saying my son not to get closer or touch the exhibits. There was no reason to shout to 6 year old kid. We have been several times "here" and other exhibitions, and we did not have any related issue before. She apologized for her loud voice immediately after shouting. However, my son was visibly shocked by her yelling and her overall attitude, causing him to freeze in fear. He neither touched nor accessed anything. Please note, when parents come to here for kids, do not make kids mentally feel shocked and fear. Also note, my son followed your rule, and has not even tried to be...
Read moreCame to this building thinking it was the Menil Collection and left with so much dissapointment. As I am writing my review I see that this is not the correct location. Do not make my mistake. Open your map and go to the Menil Collection & Rothko chapel. That was my intention, unfortunately I entered this building which is nothing I would consider to be art. So bad that they did not let us take pictures. Not worth a visit what so ever! Steer-clear, waste of time! There should really be arrows pointing you in the right direction or even the person at the door should be telling people. Better...
