I’ve heard about this place from so many people and I’m glad I got to finally experience Handies!
My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day so it was packed. The seating is a little cramped and the chairs aren’t exactly the most comfortable but overall, the restaurant’s vibe is laid back and casual.
I started off with the Olyshii cocktail. I would honestly come back to Handies just for this drink- it’s sweet from the lychee, has that citrus aroma from the yuzu, and just enough sake where it’s not overpowering (I’m the type of person who likes alcoholic beverages that doesn’t taste like alcohol so just fyi haha)
My boyfriend and I got the 5 Handroll set, Sake Crudo, and the Kanpachi Crudo. Everything in the Hand-roll set was delicious- my favorite was the BGB Sake! For one of the Negitoro, we got caviar for an extra $4 and tbh, I don’t think it’s worth it. I’ve never had it before and wanted to try it but it’s just a little extra buttery flavor, nothing crazy,
I wished the set didn’t end on a Avodaco roll because it just leaves you wanting more. I’m pretty sure that’s their tactic and it worked because we ended up ordering A La Carte and got the Hamachi Hand-roll and the Hotate Hand-roll lol. Their Hamachi roll was delicious but the Hotate was okay, I wasn’t exactly a fan of their filling aside from the hotate itself.
As for the Crudo, the sake was good but I thought the chii garlic was a little overpowering. However, their Kanpachi was delicious! I love how refreshing this dish was and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite.
Overall, I enjoyed Handies very much! I can’t wait to drink their Olyshii...
Read moreMy recent visit to Handies-Montrose left me with mixed feelings, primarily due to the unprofessional conduct of the staff. While the food was satisfactory, the encounter with the staff tarnished what could have been an enjoyable dining experience.
Upon arrival I was eager to indulge in their renowned sushi offerings. However, my enthusiasm quickly waned when I encountered a rather rude and accusatory staff member. After finishing a majority of our meal we each ordered 2-3 more handrolls towards the end of the evening. We received all but one of them, upon inquiry of the remaining handroll I was met with a hostile attitude, as if I were being accused of fabricating the missing portion of my order. Despite calmly explaining the situation, the staff member remained dismissive and confrontational. It was very strange to be accused of lying about a $6 roll when our bill was already well above $150. Their lack of professionalism was both disheartening and off-putting, especially considering the amount of times we’ve visited handies.
The encounter had already soured my dining experience. And was quite awkward due to the close proximity to other patrons as well.
While handies may offer delicious food, the unprofessional behavior of certain staff members detracts from the overall dining experience. I would recommend management to focus on improving customer service and ensuring that all interactions with patrons are handled with courtesy...
Read moreOkay, I promised I would give a fair review, so here it goes. I had a reservation for 8:30 and went in at 8. I was hungry, lol. I was told I had to wait until my time, and it was a cramped space, so I told the nice lady I would wait in my car. Waited until 8:30 and went back in. I was sat in between ladies who both had their backs to me ( did i mention it was cramped ) . So, while I looked at what I wanted to order, I'm getting elbowed from both sides. lol, I was getting a beating, lol . It was loud, I had a hard time hearing the server. sadly, I just pointed to the menu to order, but he got me. Then, after a very short time, I got my first order spicy tuna, and it was great, so I ordered the sashimi, and it melted in my mouth. Perfect 👌 in every way. Now I did have to keep the lady to my right from dipping her hair in my food ( it was very cramped ) I will say if you come here, come with friends. It's not really a place to come alone. But food is a 5 all day a little pricey given the competition but good. Service was 3 because you never want to ask someone to wait 30 minutes when there are open seats. And one for the atmosphere if you are going to have a bar you should have room to relax your shoulders and not fight a blond for air space over your food. Oh funny add on I went to the wrong Handies, so my reservation for another restaurant. I found out when they called and asked if I was ready to...
