Crawfish Cafe — Restaurant in Houston

This is my Sweet but Bittersweet review of Crawfish Cafe Sooo. I was craving Crawfish as usual on last Saturday. I was doing my research as usual. Checking my Crawfish Facebook groups, Crawfish Restaurant pages etc... Due to the Snow and cold weather last week an abundant of places were out of Crawfish. That is totally understandable for a normal human being, as I am not that. Lol! I was in Richmond and wanted to go pick some up before heading home. It was raining on and off (inconsistent and bipolar) I live on the Southwest- China Town-Representing!!! I'm pretty much in Viet Crawfish Paradise! I called 3 businesses and 1 food truck with no luck. 1 business told me that they would be getting more later that night. I didn't want to go back outside after settling in. I decided to call Crawfish Cafe that has never let me down. There was a lady that answered the phone and I swear it sounded like she was in a call center or not at the location. She asked did I want my Crawfish with heads or without, which threw me off alot. I reiterated that I wanted boiled Crawfish🤣. I totally confirmed with her that I was getting 3lbs of boiled Crawfish Medium Cajun. She told me 20 mins or so for pick up. It started pouring down raining. That would usually deter me from going anywhere. On Bellaire they drive pretty crazy. I got right in that Crazy to go get my babies. I pulled in the back, where they have the to go pick up, which is very convenient. I didn't know about the back pick up or entrance till a few years ago. I parked right in the front in the handicapped lane(Forgive me please) due to no other spots being available and the pouring down rain. I was coming right back out. I went in and went to the counter to let them know that I had a pick up order and there was a girl that said my name and told me that they were bagging up my Crawfish. Maybe she was the one on the phone🤔. N E Ways, I liked how she acknowledge me and repeated my order to me. When I decided to sit down in my living room with all my necessities to eat my Crawfish I was savouring every single Crawfish. The Cajun flavor and the Crawfish were on point! I have no complaints at all!! Now onto the reason why my experience was Bittersweet... I ate them all😭There weren't...

Man if this isn't the BEST place so far that I've eaten at to have some spectacular crawfish.. I've been to too many places throughout Houston and this is definitely one of them. Some people might not care for asain style crawfish but.. Hey you don't know until you try. You can do 5 different levels of spice. And add whatever flavoring you want. They're menu is simple but straight to the point.. You choose your choice of seafood.. You add what you want weither its mushrooms, corn potatoes etc. And you pick you level of spice and what flavor. They also have plates like meals and appitizers. Our family got the reaper which is the hottest and extra spicy crawfish fish. My daughter is two but loves spicy food but we did not giver her the reaper.. It is very intense but oh so flavorful!! The price is very reasonable.. For 5 lbs of crawfish 7 drinks which four of them were two beers and 2 margaritas. I paid $77 and some change. We were restraunt hopping through chinatown so we were basically getting a snack between us 5. They crawfish are huge so you'll be fuller than you think. They drinks were good. The placed was packed so the waiter forgot a few things. But we've been here before with a different waiter and he was extremely good and schooled us on the history of this placed and the other locations they had. The restraunt was kind of like a sports bar type, had tvs with sports and music videos which the boys thought was awesome. My daughter liked the fact you could draw on the table. And I love the atmosphere.. My husband likes more of chinatown for its culture so he would of prefered it more cultural but he still enjoied it. It's very clean.. And small but bigger enough to have still a good space between other people or family's, or party's. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone to come during crawfish season or to get seafood thoughtout the year. DON’T take out to eat!!! Skeptical if they were “live crawfish”

I have visited this restaurant for 7 years and I used to love it.

Last week, I ordered extra 2 pounds of crawfish to go after I finished the dinner with my friends at the restaurant. The staff at “take out” counter told me that I had to wait for 20 min for cooking since they wanted to make customers taste FRESH food. It was so ironic since 2min later, I received a text message that reminded me the crawfish was get ready to take out. However, the crawfish was warm, so I guessed they may keep crawfish warm in the kitchen all the time then customers could get food ASAP. The size of crawfish were big.

Today, I ordered 10 pounds of crawfish to take out. The crawfish size were much smaller than last week; some of the crawfish were covered in black dirt; and many of the crawfish were still freezing. Then, no doubt that the restaurant kept them in refrigerator before the order, which against “live crawfish” on the receipt.

I was so disappointed since I always told my friends this restaurant was amazing. I actually encountered the exact same issue at another crawfish restaurant for to go order.
