LONG POST Had been going to this restaurant for at least a year. The first time I went, the owner was so nice -- he even gave me a packet of cookies to try. The last few times that I have been, the customer service has gotten increasingly worse. And I noticed that the price of the same thing that I get fluctuates up and down, depending on the owner's mood (it seems). The very last I went, the price jumped by almost 70%, and when I brought it to his attention, he yelled that the prices went up and demanded that I pay because the food is now prepared. I declined to buy because I did not like the way he spoke to me. He then screamed for me to get out of his store and do not ever come back. I can only guess that his goal was to humiliate me by acting like a "Karen" (acting unhinged), or he was off of his meds and/or just having a bad day. Regardless, I will not spend my money where I am not valued or respected as a customer - there are far too many restaurants in the tunnel to frequent. Here are a couple of process improvements to consider: #1- post the prices so that people know what they are before they buy, and more importantly, #2- learn how to...
Read moreI've worked downtown for over 10 years, long enough to see this spot in the tunnel change concept 3 or 4 times. But this iteration as "Deli Deluxe" has lasted by far the longest, and there's a reason. A quirky little spot, they offer a daily selection of traditional American comfort food plates, plus made-to-order sandwiches, salads and wraps. It's the classic Indian fare made and served here that keeps bringing me back. For Indian food options in Downtown Houston, Deli Deluxe is consistently my favorite. Their tikka masala is one of the best I've had, is always on the menu, and is offered in chicken and paneer varieties (they'll make it as spicy as you like!). Dum biryani in vegetable and chicken options are also available. From time to time, they also have a very good rogan josh. Other Indian food selections include saag paneer, chana masala, chole bhature, vada pav, and delicious samosas. Dependable, quality Indian food, great prices, and gracious...
Read moreI come here about once every two weeks for lunch when I'm craving Indian food - everything I've gotten has been delicious - though I have settled in to the tikka masala and saag paneer as my regular orders. I love the pickled onions that come with the hot lunches and the samosa that are fried up hot when you order. Service is fast and friendly and the line is always much shorter than at Mayuri just a couple of buildings down (via the tunnel system). This is definitely an unassuming little place, but don't let that fool you! The Indian options here are really good. Seating is separate and part of the building lobby facilities, shared with the adjacent businesses. It can get crowded on busy days or if it's raining and all of downtown is lunching in...
