Okay, so I desperately wanted to write a review after my first visit here but I knew there were many more things on the menu that I wanted to try...therefore exerting much self control, I held off so I could write one gigantic review! (I know, run on)
The last two times I've gone for dinner, I've sat at the sushi bar and loved it! I realize that if you have more than two people, a table is probably a better option, but I always enjoy watching the chefs at work.
On to what you're really waiting for...the food! agedashi tofu - perfectly fried and still soft inside, but not so soft that it falls apart on your chopsticks (a definite plus) hamachi kama - I've gotten this at quite a few places around Houston and I must say that I've found the best bang for my buck here. You'll be hard pressed to find a yellowtail collar this large for the price! Super delicious. tuna tower - I don't think it's technically on the menu, but it was at one point a special and I believe they can still make it. The tuna tower is delicious and HUGE! When they handed it to us over the sushi bar my jaw dropped. (see photo I posted, should have put something next to it so yall could see the relative size!) sashimi A - 12 pieces for $18. So fresh fresh fresh and delicious. The pieces were also quite generous in size. The only other place I've had sashimi this fresh was at Sushi Miyagi, but the food here comes out much faster! katsudon (pork) - not greasy or oily at all! I think the pork they use is not only quite large but also pretty lean, so that definitely made me feel better about eating a fried pork cutlet! nabeyaki udon - hot hot soup (which was perfect because it's the way the BF likes noodle soups). Came with a variety of toppings, and the shrimp tempura was fried well, not overloaded with batter. tempura ice cream - HUGE. Please see the picture I posted, this one has a cherry on top so you can see how large the scoop is!! Super legit.
Service has always been great every time I go. The wine list is also directed toward the bargain drinker with most of the bottles priced under $30. Overall, all my experiences have been superb. I've also now become a...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews, but felt that this had to be shared.
Service: 1 out of 5 My husband and I were sat at a table and immediately asked what we would like to drink and order for an appetizer. Odd to ask about appetizers when we haven’t even had a chance to open the menu. Feeling rushed, we ordered the vegetable tempura appetizer. The tempura was forgotten and never brought out.
While looking over the menu, the female server kept coming back to ask if we were ready to order. When I let her know I was still deciding, she, with an attitude, asked “do you need help?” I’ve been eating sushi across the world for many years and was very surprised to get this sort of rushed and rude service.
Both servers working Nov 6 at 12:30PM seemed very unhappy, as if we were inconveniencing them. The poor attitude made our dining experience awkward and unpleasant.
With many Japanese and sushi restaurants in Houston, this is one we cannot not recommend.
Hot Food: 3 out of 5 Vegetable tempura was never brought out. Chicken katsu curry bento was a good portion. Curry was not Japanese curry, but more of a Thai curry with coconut.
Nigiri: 4 out of 5 Nigiri had good fish to rice ratio. No wasabi in between fish and rice. Spicy chopped scallops were lightly covered in spicy mayo, with sriracha on top. Salmon and yellowtail were smooth and tasty.
Rolls: 4 out of 5 Let’s do this roll without jalapeño had good flavor despite omitting jalapeño.
Ambiance: 3 out of 5 Visited during lunch time. Large dining space was clean and quiet, with two other tables dining in. The energy...
