We went to listen to an author Medea Benjamin supposedly talk about peace in Ukraine 🇺🇦 she turned out to be fact bender. She retaliated when challenged and became disrespectful of veterans. She pushed all the Russian propaganda verbatim.
Church facilities are good and they put out a nice looking spread but the salami made my friend sick.
But the biggest gripe I had were the church members were to a person rude and uncomfortable around the non members. I had to ask the pastor why he was so apprehensive and avoiding me? His hand shake was weak when I walked up to thank him for holding the event
I told him when I go to black churches I feel welcomed so he gave me a weak hug.
It is shameful that church members especially the elders are so cold.
The transient pastor replied. Mostly excuses, denials and did not remember our encounter.
I know many of the Houston Peace Justice Center folks who were supposedly running the show. The pastor had been talking to just a few people and seemed apprehensive.
I expect better from a church and it's pastor. Hope church elders get a real pastor.
A subject like Russian aggression should not have a debate. Medea Benjamin opinions are not facts. People need to understand facts are not flexible nor social media a source of plausible denials about the destruction of Ukraine.
There is no place for lies in a church 🙏 Peace Joy and Love posters on the wall must be honored...
Read moreWe have been attending Houston Mennonite Church since 2021 and we love it. We were first drawn to it because we learned the Mennonite denomination is opposed to the death penalty, and we wanted to find a peace church. We also appreciate that HMC stands strongly against racism and police violence and is LGBT affirming. We like that it is a small church and we can get to know everyone, and we appreciate the traditional style of the hymns. Our little kids look forward to church every week and they have fun playing with their friends in kids’ church and on the playground. The church is very kid friendly and no one minds noisy kids in the service. It is a casual and friendly church and has frequent social events like potlucks. There’s a cute community vegetable garden and a nursery to sit in with fussy babies during the service. Another thing I like is that there’s no talk of Hell and lots of talk of how to make the world a better place. I recommend Houston Mennonite to anyone looking for a small traditional feeling church with progressive values and a close...
Read moreNot a member but LOVE this church. I go to their game nights (not just for the free popcorn machine in the lobby) which they host once every 2 months. The people at the church are so welcoming, friendly, and truly believe in taking actions to make the world a better place. The picture of the cups with all the messages have some of my...
