We lived much of our life in New York and New Jersey. We actually got engaged in Chinatown in 1969 New York City at Cafe BO BO. Hong Fat was a regular hangout. Cantonese cuisine was the baseline for most of what we were familiar with and learned to love. After living in Houston for six years we basically avoided Chinese restaurants here because we were always chronically disappointed. Last night we walked into happy lamp at 4 pm on Sunday to an empty store with a little bit of takeout and that’s it. It was an off hour and that’s usually a bad time to eat anywhere. Not here at happy lamp. The staff was friendly and attentive the menu very familiar and our order was without doubt the best we’ve had in the city. Egg drop soup is delicious the noodles that accompanied them are crispy and fresh. Eggrolls are forgettable but that doesn’t matter they usually are. But the happy family mixed dish of 4 meats and vegetables Was delicious and a walk down memory lane. My wife ordered a chicken chow mein because it’s an old-school dish and nobody ever serves it, IT was the bomb . giant beautiful fresh slices of chicken adorning beautifully cooked vegetables and a white sauce with fresh bean sprouts Yum!
The special fried rice there’s a mixture of beef chicken and shrimp, was very well Prepared. We took home leftovers that were just as delicious the next day. I am very picky& critical about restaurants but fresh ingredients well prepared served with kindness and a smile can’t be beat! Thank you for surprising me...

Both egg rolls and wonton soup are delicious.
I like the little fried chips they bring before your food comes. They pair well with the duck sauce.
Crab puffs are mostly cream cheese, but not bad.
Honestly, I'm not a fan of their fried rice. Next time I'll ask for white rice.
The service is outstanding. They bring the food out right away and they're so friendly. Also, you can't beat the price! Best value in town. We live in Chinatown but we drive all the way to Happy Lamp for...
Read moreI recently tried Happy Lamp for the first time, after hearing about it from friends. I can't speak to the service or ambiance as it was a to-go order, but I can say that their website is easy to use and their delivery was efficient.
There are so many great dishes and sides to choose from. The food was delicious, and the portions were hearty. I would definitely order from them again.
Some tips: If you are ordering as a group, order a variety of dishes and share (family style). Also, try one of the two "Birds Nest" chef's specialties options. It's essentially a stir fried meal that you place into a crispy noodle bowl that looks like a birds...
