There were a series of months in the past 3 years where I found that I couldn't afford groceries for my son and myself. I'm a senior on Disability and have had to give up all breakfast and lunch food purchases for the past 8 years in order to afford my doctor and prescription copays. Someone gave me a list of benevolence organizations in my area that may be able to assist in my nutrition as I am HIV+ and nutrition is one of several ways to remain healthy and keep the virus from progressing into AIDS. The folks in the food pantry were very kind and sweet and most helpful and respected my dignity as I don't like asking for help. I'd rather help others than ask for help, however, I had no choice but to ask or let my son and I get sick fromnot eating at all. ONLY ONE senior womean was rude, condescending and showed no respect not just towards me but the few others that were there on this one and only one occasion. WithWthe Lord's wisdom, I held my tongue, silently forgave her, however, I wrote a letter to the parish priest whose name escapes me at the moment. I described the toxic incident and he was quite thankful for the information and I mediately removed this person from face to face contact with the programs' clients. I didn't want anyone else to experience what I had. Some folks don't stand up for themselves especially when they feel that they've had to humble themselves to get assistance. Learning to be humble is a good thing if done properly and without any demonstrative action towards the individual. Usually female clients have their children in tow and that type of incident could possibly leave an indelible mark or reference point in their most impressive lives. I was so very thankful that no confrontation was made in public or private but the priest's response was STELLAR & MOST APPRECIATED. I'm also thankful that she was a volunteer as I would hate to see anyone lose their income oversuch an unfortunate incident. I am still struggling quite a bit since Harvey. Needed groceries but had no transport to get there. It's closeout can't walk even that 1 mile stretch without help of a cane or waljker but I'm alive and that's good...
Read moreDeacon David Johnson Yes, I am vacillating from a big tooth smile because my brother, Dede referred to you as "couzann" frequently. This gave him a chance to connect to our history, my grandmother is from Louisiana and spoke Creole French to us regularly. Thank you for being part of our history. To big crocodile tears crying as I miss him heart-breakingly because he is no longer with us. Oh my goodness, I miss the 10 phone calls per day, to talk about Padre Pio and his miracles of bilocation. To a relief filled smile again because, you, your service to God helped us in ways we did not know to ask for. Deacon Johnson, God used you to be present at St. Thomas More when my brother and family arrived, he felt so at home; he was able to be himself, smart wisecracks, questions and all. We needed you the most, on a day where you are normally off, you did not know we were coming from Atlanta and you walked in the door. Evidence of God's Grace. God knew we needed someone who "knew" my brother loved to eat lots of spaghetti and meatballs at Picadilly. God knew we needed someone who was able to "bridge the gap between Atlanta and Houston" effortlessly.
Your home going message and spirit made us feel welcome, safe, vulnerable and hopeful that we were able to ask and answer questions, sort thru the chaos and challenges and move forward with God's help.
This is proof that God's pre-planned all of our lives.
Thank you for your service! Job Well...
Read morewhile driving my van on the property of St thomas, I drove under a covered drive which was visibly high enough to clear my van roof. The roof was not labeled at all! It had a black protrusion sticking down which was invisible to the eye due to its color but would have been visible had it been marked with the proper height placard. My van hit this protrusion and now the church will not cover my damages. If this is the "christian" conduct which this organization teaches in their church and school one would have to be extremely suspect as to whether this is what one would like to be taught or to have taught to ones children. This is a criminal and immoral organization. It has absolutely no conscience or sense of responsibility for its negligence. Very pathetic and...
