UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU BOOK A PRIVATE EVENT AT RED LION BRITISH PUB...BUT, INSTEAD FIRST START WITH KENNEALLY'S! I booked the fireplace room at RLBP for a private birthday party at least 6 weeks before the event...only to have a voice message left on my cell phone by the owner a week prior to the event informing me he had moved our group of 40 to an unsuitably crowded location in the restaurant because he had knowingly OVERBOOKED the room I had reserved. Then, he (nor the staff) did not have the intestinal fortitude to return any of my phone calls for a week. I even went by the restaurant to resolve the issue; and again, he was not there nor returned any of my messages. Finally, 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE EVENT, he left me a message that he would 'comp' the appetizers (little consolation for me having to scramble and find another location at the 11th hour)...although we were still relegated to the small area. SO MORAL OF THIS STORY...I hope everyone reading this review will no longer support The Red Lion British Pub! As a result of this debacle, I went across the street to Kenneally's Irish Pub and they could not have been nicer to work with, exceptionally gracious, and invited our group back at any time. Needless to say, our annual birthday party celebration for one of our members will now be held at Kenneally's! Many thanks to...
Read moreFantastic atmosphere for a dive bar junkie. I'm the kind of gal that finds a quiet, dark bar full of regulars and decides to make it my own. I go there for years and never try something new until something goes wrong or someone twists my arm. Years ago, I was a huge McElroy's fan. You could find me there 5 nights each week and all day on the weekends. That was my spot and I genuinely refused to meet anyone anywhere else. Well, things changed and I have a new spot!
A friend of mine dragged me to Kenneally's one night just raving about the place. You see, she worked here back in the beginning days. I have to say, I really liked it and have been back several times. The patio is perfectly shaded from the elements and reasonably sized to accommodate a few groups. The staff is always prompt and friendly, plus I keep meeting new people. My only complaint would have to be the prices. I'm a dos XX gal and they're definitely more expensive here than any other pub in town.
I haven't tried the infamous pizza yet, but it's...
Read moreA classic Irish bar with beer cocktails and pizza, just like in the old country. Decent patio seating, welcoming atmosphere, ok drinks. I was sad to find no leprechauns in the whole place, but I just didn't look hard enough. Dart boards are a big plus. Parking is shared with neighboring businesses, and if it wasn't Wednesday night like when I tried it, I bet parking is a pain in the behind. Uber and Lyft are your friends, so are whiskey shots and your nearest bar patrons. This has been a commonly picked spot to meet up with friends for years in my life, and has a nice Houston relaxed vibe. The run-down area is classic Houston too, it looks and feels better at night and with a...
