Stopped in on a Saturday at near noon. It's interior was bright, refreshing and a cool retreat from the heat. Even with the ample seating They were half full on this visit. I l'd been to their old location in the past and this was definitely an update, if not a bit trendy and minimalist. Immediately the staff was a highlight of the visit. Everyone was friendly and genuinely pleasant. I started with a house margarita and to my pleasant surprise it was exactly what I look for in a margarita. Wonderfully tart, dry and sufficient pour to make happy fuzzy feelings in my tummy. The prerequisite chips were light and fresh, the slasa was a bit chunky with a slight tomato sauce flavor but still very good. The waitress offered to bring a salsa verde to my table and I'm glad she did ... It was on point and really made the rest of the meal sparkle. I know that's a lot of pressure for a salsa but it was that good. I ordered the carne guisada after my tummy decided that was what I was in the mood for. I asked the waitress how theirs was made and he explained it was like a gravy over meat .... Carne Guisada is one of those like menudo or gumbo .. everyone has their own take and you never quite know what you're getting when you order it. I did mange to get out of her, it was more of a red type Guisada. I should have known it was going to be a bit different though when they had chicken and beef versions. The Guisada was less stewed gravy and more like an enchilada sauce and the carne was not stewed beef, but instead fajitas. Not really what my spur of the moment carne Guisada craving wanted .... I will say it was delicious and the fajitas added a grilled smoky flavor not usually found in a Guisada but was cut with a fork tender. The use of fajita meat does kinda skew the price higher than most Carne Guisadas . Others will probably love it and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. It's just a non-traditional take on a classic dish. Kinda the reason I took off a star on the food score. The dish came with rice, beans, pico and guacamole. The flour tortillas seem site cooked but machine made. They were too uniform and perfect to be hand made. The guacamole was definitely fresh, chunky and site made. The rice was fluffy and flavored well. All in all it was a grand way to spend a Saturday afternoon treating myself. I'll have to come back to try their other...
Read moreHow can one even begin to describe Juarez Mexican Restaurant?
First off, I'd say that it's a community establishment. A good portion of their customers are families that have been eating at Juarez for years and years. It's a type of restaurant that doesn't advertise through commercials, or signs, or fliers, but rather they're known through word of mouth. When someone comes to Juarez and experiences the above average food and service, they tell their friends, who go on to tell more and more friends until everyone in the neighborhood is aware of this tiny little establishment on the side of Gessner Drive.
Secondly, other restaurants just can't compete with Juarez's prices. At Juarez, you can get two beef enchiladas with rice and beans for a significantly lower price than some of the big name restaurants. It's just a deal that can't be beat. Along with low priced food, they have excellent deserts, and alcoholic beverages that are worth your dollar. (And if I do say so myself, the alcoholic beverages are MOST DEFINITELY worth your dollar.)
Thirdly, by eating at Juarez you are ensuring you and your family great entertainment, great food, and great customer service. Along with various little vending machines full of goodies for the little children, Juarez boasts an impressive amount of televisions for such a small restaurant. These televisions are normally playing the sport of the season, so for you Dad's, this is a great place to watch the football game while still spending time with your family. The food is excellent. From their enchiladas, to their tacos, to even their salad, nothing beats the wonderful cooked from scratch taste that Juarez offers their customers. Anothing thing that Juarez offers their customers is wonderful customer service. Anytime I go to Juarez to eat, I'm immediately asked what I would like to drink, and throughout my whole dining experience, I never have to worry about getting thirsty because the dutiful waiters and waitresses are always ready to bring me a refill.
In conclusion, Juarez Mexican Restaurant is a fine choice for a night out with the family. You will receive fantastic food, entertainment, and service for low prices. If you're ever in the Spring Branch neighborhood, I HIGHLY suggest you stop at Juarez. You...
Read moreOn Monday I went to eat dinner with my girlfriend and her mom. As the hostess was sitting my girlfriend and I down while we waited for her mom, the hostess began to tell us about how I was there the day before with another woman. At first we were confused about what she was talking about but she kept repeating herself, telling my girlfriend that I was cheating on her. As dinner went on, that same hostess was making eye contact with my girlfriend while I wasn’t looking and shaking her head at me. I’ve never felt so disrespected and embarrassed in my life. Thankfully, my girlfriend and I had spent that entire day together so we knew she had mistaken me for someone else and there were no issues caused in our relationship. Regardless, this was EXTREMELY inappropriate for this hostess to make accusations like this, especially when she wasn’t 100% sure about what she was saying. My appetite was ruined and so was my evening. I’ve never experienced something like this in my entire life and I’ve never been so humiliated and angry. We will not be coming back here. There are tons of other Mexican restaurants in the area that don’t have employees that will try and destroy random relationships,...
