We just came in from church today and my husband decided that he wanted to stop here at this place Just Oxtails Soul Food, my husband and I have been here before about 9 years ago and the food was alright but the atmosphere was a bit crowded, uncomfortable and unfriendly. However, today we came in with our 2 sons, daughter, sister with her son and daughter. We got in the kids order first, the woman in the front taking our order was very dry, short and rude, she was rushing us the moment we got in there, we ignored her. I was having a conversation with my sister about what I wanted to order while she was taking my husband's order and it seems that she was listening to us, because when I took my order, she told me, "I thought you said you wanted oxtails," and I told her, "Umm, I literally didn't order yet," and then she preceeded to my husband's plate, read it and I said, "that's my husband's plate, I think you were listening to my conversation," and then she started to really start having an even uglier attitude, and that's when my sister said, "mame this is my first time here. please bare with me." As we finished up our order, we waited for our plates, there was a nice young man who sent them to us, with common courtesy. The woman kept looking our way, while we sat and talked eating our food, she kept having something to say about our kids when there were absolutely zero people sitting in there, it all ended with us getting into an argument with the manager coming out, not sure if he talked to his employee or relative about her encounters with customers, but he will lose business this way, I for one will never ever come back here again, I do not recommend this place, the food is not worth the price nor the service, we spent a little over $200 dollars on something that I can do better on. So hear me out, if you want to go somewhere to just chill, don't go to Just Oxtails Soul Food, if you want go somewhere for friendly people, don't go to Just Oxtails Soul Food, if you want to go somewhere to eat some good Soul Food, don't go to Just Oxtails Soul Food. STAY...
Read moreWhere do I begin? I wanted a tasty Sunday meal. To be totally honest, I ended up here because the meat market I like closed while I was inside (with no food left). Someone that was leaving asked if I had been to Just Oxtails. I had heard about it on the radio, but never been. I swooped around the corner within minutes to find 4 people in line. Tell me why it took 45 minutes to leave this place? What I witnessed was like something you've never seen before. No lie...The servers moved like they were given tranquilizers or sleeping pills. The lady serving the ox tails kept scooping them up and putting them back (repeatedly) before deciding to put them in the to go container??? Then, she went to the kitchen twice to get more oxtails when there were clearly already oxtails still in the pan that she kept taking to the kitchen??? The second time she left, she was gone for at least 7 minutes (which seemed like an eternity), even though we were told there were plenty of oxtails, ready to serve.
Their faces looked like they were zonked!! Maybe they had a long day???
No one was dining in, which might be due to the drab look of the dining area. Maybe that was done intentionally so that everyone would order their food to go.
I heard someone mention chocolate cake, so I asked if it was homemade. The server said, with a huge attitude, "ma'am I'm the server." Well, wouldn't it have made more sense to just ask some of the other workers? It's not okay that she felt satisfied with her answer to an inquiring customer...smh
Needless to say, I don't care how hungry I am, I'll NEVER step foot in that...
Read moreLet me preface this review by saying, I know this is not a five star restaurant in River Oaks, however I expected some level of service. The one star I am giving this restaurant in way too generous. I called the order in, using their menu, everything I asked for I was told "we don't have that" after three attempts to guess what was available, I finally asked the young lady what was available, while she was running down a list of what they had the owner grabbed the phone from her and told me, "I'm the owner, this call is taking too long, you have to know what you want because we have other customers." I replied, if you had what is stated on your menu that would not be an issue, but since you don't, have this and this and this, I'm trying to modify my order. I was charged $1.50 for a phone order, and when I got there the order was not made. I had to wait while they serviced people in the line and after about 10 minutes they made the wrong order, I had to speak to another manager to get the order made correctly, 30 minutes later, I was finally had my order and to top it all the food wasn't edible. The rice was hard, they took no care putting the order together, the beans were mixed with the corn, the oxtails were a pile of fat. I felt like I wasted $22.65. If the order had been for me, I would have left it, but the order was for a friend who needed a little comfort food. So, if you are wondering about this place save yourself and go elsewhere. The management is HORRIBLE! The owner is IGNORANT and the staff all seem to be drugged, they...
