I enjoyed a late breakfast today, along w/ a dear friend.
I was shocked to walk-in to an empty restaurant at 10 AM, fearful of what the food might taste like. Usually, good food places are packed.
What a nice, hidden gem this place turned out to be!
You order at the counter, help yourself to your drink(s) of choice, grab utensils, etc & then wait for your food.
Our food arrived quickly. My friend had their morning classic breakfast, which he enjoyed. I ordered the bacon egg avacado bowl. Very good! Both came with a side of fresh fruit, which was also delicious.
Unbeknownst to us, today is World Music Day, and the place had live music starting about an hour after we arrived. We were a bit concerned about how loud it might become, as we were playing catch-up after not seeing each other in quite awhile.
Around 11, the music started & a lovely lady went up on stage. She played an acoustical guitar, had a nice, soothing voice & played some good music while we were there.
My friend is hard of hearing, wearing a hearing aid in 1 ear. While the music played, I moved to his side of the booth, versus across from him so we could continue talking, but trying to be respectful of the woman on stage and the 5 or so folks there who were also enjoying her music.
At 1 point, a woman in a booth in front of us, turned, giving us the look of "you're interrupting", turned her nose up at us & then went back to paying attention to the stage. I thought her rather rude, she had no idea of my friend's hearing issue but we were being as respectful as possible, trying our best to keep our voices low.
The decor is a bit dated, but the interior appears clean and well taken care of.
I'll return in the future, I enjoyed my meal & want to try some other...
Read moreI frequently pass by this place all the time since I work right down the street. My boss frequents this establishment often and gives it high praise. So this morning after my groggy start, I decided that I wanted to try the breakfast menu that I saw online. They have something most places don't have "Muffin Melts". Of course being the foodie that I am, I have to try this mixture of flavors on an English Muffin. I called in my order so I can pick it up and be on my way to work. The guy didn't have much pizzazz but hey its 7:15 on a Friday morning who would. I go in and me some orange juice and a blueberry muffin that looked heavenly by the cash register (It was just okay) and I tell the guy at the register that I'm here to pick up a to go order. He responds to me by saying "The cook did not tell me that we were out of English muffins so she put it on Texas toast is that okay?" Mind you he never stopped ringing up my order. While I'm thinking he gives me my total. It surprises me and i say "So you're going to charge me full price for the breakfast sandwich even though that's not what I ordered?" He looks at me as if I have horns growing out of my head. He then makes the statement "Ma'am it's just bread." Sorry sir if it was just bread I wouldn't have ordered it on an English muffin. Needless to say I will not be going back to this establishment. Customer service is everything and if you don't have that your business often suffers. Not to mention the taco I ordered which was simply eggs, mushrooms and spinach wasn't correct either. There weren't any mushrooms on it. The best thing about this meal was the Simply...
Read moreI have been to Kojaks for lunch several times and I am a big fan. The menu changes daily with some repeats. When I first dined here I had the quiche and salad combo and have never looked back. Thankfully my lunch dates get something different so I can try other items! They all love the quiche (We’ve had a veggie mix, ham and cheese, spinach and mushroom) too and we end up sharing entrees. We’ve shared the salad trio, gyro, and the Parmesan crusted chicken. All have been great with a couple exceptions: The chicken was a little dry and something was off with the ham and cheese quiche. I would try both again, though! Also its important to note that it is BYOB with a cork fee, however during dinner you get a free app or dessert. If you’ve read any of my reviews you know I love BYOB. Speaking of dessert I’ve had chocolate cookies, baklava, and brownies. SO good.
One thing I have to mention is there menu is a little confusing the first timers. They have it written on the wall, on a sheet of paper, and they have some at the counter. Its also all of the place from gyros, to meatloaf, to my fav quiches. They also have a little deli corner with an assortment of drinks (decently priced) as well as a dessert case, so it lives up the deli part of the name. I have yet to come here at true dinner time (I've had really late lunches or “linner” with wine, though!). I know that the times we've thought about it they seem to be closing (after 7pm) and I've seen different times listed for their hours. One of these days will we try it at...
