Phở Ngon — Restaurant in Houston

Pho Ngon is a phenomenal lunch spot. The thit nuong is incredible, the prices are stupid affordable, and the Mi Vit Tiem (duck noodle soup) is so perfect that you may give up on pho altogether.

The thit nuong (bbq pork) is marinated well, soft, and adorned with deliciously burnt edges and warm fat. I haven't had thit nuong this good in years. They just started serving banh mi (buy 5 get 1 free). You would think the banh mi thit nuong would be a hit, but there's something very odd about it. The bread is your generic bolillo and they try to be different by adding peanuts... Peanuts? What in the hell? Luckily their cheap rice plates and vermicelli bowls more than make up for the sub-par sandwiches.

Mi Vit Tiem is a soup with a sweet, savory, dark brown broth, egg noodles, and roasted duck. It tastes almost medicinal, but in the best way possible. The roasted duck leg is so tender that the meat falls right off the bone. The shiitake mushrooms are like flavor bombs the way they soak up the broth. Lastly, the Chinese broccoli rounds it all out by offering texture and a slight bitterness. This is one of my favorite soups in Chinatown and definitely a must-try if you're tired of pho and chao/congee.

Although the food is delicious, don't forget the this is still a restaurant in Chinatown. The service isn't top-notch. Once they have dropped the food off at your table, don't expect them to check on you again. When you finish eating, you need to pay up front. Despite the expected service, Pho Ngon stands out in other ways. The service is fairly quick, and it is hard to exceed $10 per person. When ordering take-out the food is typically ready in about 10 minutes. I can't speak for their pho, but I don't really think that matters. Just make sure to have a cafe sua da after your lunch. The MSG will put you to sleep, and inevitably leave you dreaming about the tasty food you've...

We where regular customers untill we had BAD FOOD EXPERIENCE with them a few times. Sevices is no the best at all. 1- My husband bought spring rolls for me, and it was damage spoiled the paper rice looked dark, and the shrimp inside it was dammage spoiled when I was ready to eat it smell so bad. 2- I got some pink refrigerator desert that they made with milk and fruits guess what the milk was damage horrible. 3- After a month we gave them another chance we come back for the same desert and guess what the fruits was old taste so bad no fresh at all. 4- Last bad experience was when we order food to go "2 beef sandwich and a soup" so when we open a sandwich my husband found a roach inside the sandwich this is very unacceptable very disgusting. I hope the city inspectors pass by often to check the irregularities in that restaurant.

We used to be regular clients but we decided no to go there any more! Now we are visiting other restaurants around Bellaire like TAN TAN that are very clean and the food is fresh and good in all aspect..... DON'T GO THERE PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR FOOD IN THERE CHECK YOUR FOOD BEFORE YOU EAT AT Pho Ngon!!!! Please city inspectors go there soon to do a restaurant inspection. This place is succeeding in disappointing me each time I come by and today will be my last time here including my family. We have been their customers for years and they are going downhill in term of food and service when either we were there to dine in or for to go. We won’t be coming back anymore since we have gave them enough of our patience. Today, since it’s cold so I placed my orders for to go and when I got home one of the soup has no meats or whatsoever in it beside the veggies and the noodle. They’ve been in business far too long to not realize what’s going on the with the orders and what are supposed to be in the soup and etc...So I called them and they were like “really? Then take it back to us” well I’m not going to spend another 30 minutes driving back to their place and another 30 minutes driving back to my house. I’m very very disappointed with how they are now. Don’t let me start with their service. All of the staff are with attitude problems and they could careless what the customers needed beside chit chat...
