Restaurante Azucena — Restaurant in Houston

I tried this place because I was caught in a rain storm leaving the Dollar Tree! I was hungry and all I saw was Jack in the Box! :( So I drove down the strip center and saw this place and I believe I even read about Azucena. Pretty simple place, sitting area, counter, clean restrooms and some pretty amazing food!!!! I got mine to go and I loved it. I got two Sopes with carnitas and huaraches with carnitas, sour cream on side. I like to put my own sour cream on my food! Not sure about the sopes, but my huaraches were so toasty and crunchy, omg , I could have eaten it plain! Carnitas were tasty, I could live without the cheese but still was delicious! And they were loaded with perfect avocado slices and the red salsa was a perfect combination! Looks like they offer a great breakfast, a little pricey for me. However , I might try it in the future! I came to eat with my mother and family and we love the food. We come often and live nearby. The server we had was a male I haven’t seen him before. He was the worst usually the regular servers are wonderful. My mother wanted to leave her tip in cash but instead this man took it upon himself to leave the tip on her car instead without her having to choose the option. Now normally we get to choose but I guess yesterday morning on Monday, July 11,2023 the server decided his own tip which was way too much for the poor service he provided. I had to ask for my coffee constantly myself and get up to ask for anything. It was the worse experience I’ve had here and will be calling visa for our money back since I asked to speak to the manager or owner. The response I got was no he is not here. I have been here MANY times now with my students, friends and family! I have met pretty much the entire staff except the kitchen. Carlos the owner is such an awesome guy and he cares so much about the customers! So much so that he lectured me to try ordering something else besides the El Torogoz which I ordered EVERYTIME I went! (Which was almost daily at one point LOL!) The staff is all great, Jenny, Joel, Jason Yajaira(?) are all wonderful people and it is now a regular brunch place. Huareches is excellent with its layer of avocados on top and crispy fried tortilla at the bottom with meat and cheese and veggies in between. Then the nachos are my FAVORITE out of ALL restaurants EVER! The chips are light and crispy and they coat it with tons of guac, beans, cheese and it all works so well.
